Vitalpin Starts Initiative With Tourism Associations
The Vitalpin association has set itself the goal of getting from talking to doing and working with its members to take active measures to protect the environment. That is why a specific climate protection package for destinations has been drawn up. Almost a third of the Tyrolean tourism associations are already involved at the start of this pilot project and are concerned with the conception of tangible measures as part of this project. Vitalpin is pleased about the commitment of the destinations Alpbachtal, Brixental, Hohe Salve, Kitzbühel, Kufsteiner Land, Pillerseetal, St. Johann, Wilder Kaiser and the Innsbruck region.
To protect the Alpine region
The association has been committed to the sustainable development of destinations since Vitalpin was founded in 2019. In order to bring tourism and the protection of the Alps closer together, Vitalpin and the climate protection expert ClimatePartner launched the “Vitalpin | Your partner in climate protection ". This was followed by the Vitalpin KlimaInvestment initiative - voluntary premium payments from companies that are invested in protecting the Alpine region. Now comes the package for TVBs.
Vitalpin proves once again that words have to be followed by deeds. Managing Director Theresa Haid emphasizes: “The natural disasters of the past few weeks have once again shown us that it is time to treat our living space with more respect and to put 'life and business in harmony with alpine nature' into practice. Analogous to the requirements of the 'Tiroler Weg im Tourismus', we have therefore worked out steps that can be implemented in practice, which are intended to bring about sustainable changes. "Haid is particularly pleased with the great popularity of the tourism associations:" The tourism associations in the Tyrolean Unterland and Innsbruck Tourismus decided to take part ", said the managing director.
"The Unterländer TVBs have been pulling together for a long time when it comes to environmental protection", says Armin Kuen, Managing Director TVB Pillerseetal. We know that climate protection does not stop at the borders of the region. A future-oriented perspective for responsible tourism development can only be created together, "adds Kuen.
Innsbruck Tourismus Managing Director Karin Seiler was also immediately convinced by the zeitgeist of the project: “We learned about the new initiative through our membership at Vitalpin and after we have also dealt intensively with environmental protection in tourism internally, among other things, we have our own CSR at the beginning of the year -A representative appointed in the company, we were of course immediately interested in participating. "
A package for climate protection
The Vitalpin climate protection package is individually adapted to the needs and conditions of the respective TVB and consists of freely selectable modules. In the first step, the carbon footprint of the associations and their events is calculated. The implementation of the first reduction measures will then be planned. In addition, manuals with standard measures for avoiding greenhouse gases are created. This first phase is identical for all destinations. Afterwards, the associations have individual options to expand the climate protection initiatives, for example to hotels, restaurants, leisure facilities or cable cars.
Haid is hoping for many more tourism associations to join Vitalpin and jointly implement specific measures for the sustainable development of our industry: “We are aware that this package is only a small - but correct - piece of the puzzle in terms of climate and environmental protection which many more must follow, because this is the only way to preserve a livable Alpine region for future generations. "
