Val d’Isère Offers A Family Guide To Maximising Adventure & Easy Skiing For All

This ski season, Val d’Isère, the Alps’ premier ski resort, is cementing itself as the ultimate alpine playground for families. From dedicated family-focused ski areas and accommodation to workshops and activities across the resort's world-famous venues, there is something for everyone looking for adventure in the snow this winter.

Innovative Zones and Expert-Led Family Instruction

Children under eight ski for free across the extensive Tignes-Val d’Isère ski area. Families can explore the slopes with ease, including the dedicated Val Kids area, with an adventure slope, play space and picnic area. Slopes for all levels of skiers are more accessible than ever this season, with Solaise offering eight ski lifts, including magic carpets, to a variety of green and blue slopes. For more exploration, families can visit the Trace du Gypaète and its adventure trail featuring themed modules such as a vulture tunnel and a giant xylophone.

The Easy Skiing experience at Val d’Isère offers routes on green and blue slopes that are easily accessible with ski lifts, for relaxed skiing while enjoying exceptional panoramic views at altitude. With 30% of the slopes in the Val d'Isère ski area marked as Ski Tranquille (Easy Skiing) and part of the Bellevarde sector, the snow fronts of the Village and La Daille becoming an Easy Skiing zone in winter 2025-2026, the resort allows for simple navigation. These areas are clearly identified on the piste map, and the routes are detailed on the Val d'Isère Ski mobile app.

Val d'Isère is home to some of the world’s most prestigious ski schools, making it a premier destination for families prioritising both safety and high-quality teaching. Renowned schools like ESFEvolution 2, and Progression Ski & Snowboard School offer specialised programmes for children as young as three, with many emphasising small group sizes and providing English-speaking instructors. Plus, several schools offer ‘Lunch Clubs’ and escort services, allowing children to be supervised through the midday break while adults explore the resort’s more challenging 300km of terrain across the Tignes-Val d'Isère area.

Beyond the Slopes: Luxury Living and Family Entertainment in the Village

New for 2025-26: La Folie Douce has also introduced an innovative and immersive selection of workshops, offering children a unique creative outlet. Designed for children aged 6 to 14, visitors can choose from three different workshops: Chocofolie, a chocolate-filled experience; First Track, introducing kids to the world of DJing; and Studio Folie, to customise their own fashion accessory and take part in a photo shoot.

The fun continues at Village Perdu above La Daille, which offers a whimsical and accessible adventure with suspended wooden walkways and cabins built among the trees, allowing children to safely explore a unique and playful forest environment.

The Tourist Office also offers a comprehensive programme of free entertainment activities, including sledging, cross-country and downhill ski races, torchlight descents, and animal watching with the Vanoise National Park wardens. Children’s rates are also available at the ice rink and the Aquasportif Centre. The full calendar of events is available on the resort’s website.

Seamless Stays for Families of All Sizes

The 2025/26 season sees a significant evolution in the resort's Famille Plus certified lodging, led by the opening of Village Montana’s new premium aparthotels. These exclusive residences offer the perfect balance of private apartment living with 5-star hotel services, including daily gourmet breakfasts and a dedicated family concierge. Other accommodation highlights include the Experimental Chalet’s or Le Blizzard’s connecting family suites. Le Refuge de Solaise has a kids' room, allowing children to remain supervised while their parents enjoy dinner, and Les Barmes de l’Ours has lots to offer with its play area and bowling room

Safety on the slopes: Val d’Isère reinforces the message with humour

Val d'Isère’s 2025-26 slope security campaign was launched as a collaborative effort between the municipality, the ski patrol Régie des Pistes and the ESF to combat antisocial behaviour on the mountain. Developed following a call to action from 400 ski instructors, the initiative moves away from traditional policing in favour of lighthearted, whimsical posters that highlight critical FIS rules such as respect for others, speed control and safe overtaking. By integrating these playful messages with the serious work of the 60-member Piste Patrol and the expansion of dedicated Ski Tranquille (Easy Skiing) zones, the resort aims to preserve the joy of the sport while ensuring that everyone, from beginners to experts, remains safe.
