Val d’Isère Becomes Even More Accessible By Rail

This 2025/26 Winter Season, Val d’Isère, is set to welcome a rise in rail arrivals as expanded train services make the journey to the resort easier than ever before. The move follows a growing demand for train-based travel to the Alps, with leading ski tour operator data reporting a 90% year-on-year increase in rail holiday bookings this winter. This reflects a growing preference among travellers for convenient, climate-conscious routes to the mountains.

Making rail travel even more appealing, ski holiday operator Travelski, in partnership with Pegasus Trains, is introducing a new overnight service connecting Paris to Bourg-Saint-Maurice as part of Compagnie des Alpes' broader CSR commitments. With stops in Moûtiers and Aime-La-Plagne, the route will operate 14 return journeys throughout the winter season, departing Paris every Friday evening and arriving in the Alps on Saturday morning between 19th December and 20th March. Featuring 660 couchettes and a bar-restaurant carriage, the train links Paris to the French Alps in under ten hours and offers a comfortable and low-impact alternative to flying. From Bourg-Saint-Maurice, travellers can enjoy seamless onward transfers to Val d’Isère via Altibus shuttles or taxi.

The ever-popular Eurostar Snow Train will also return for the 2025/26 season, connecting the UK directly to the Alps and providing skiers with a fast, comfortable and sustainable route to Val d’Isère. With generous luggage allowances for bulky ski equipment, no airport queues, and breathtaking scenery along the way, the rail journey transforms travel into part of the holiday experience.

Together, these enhanced rail connections underline a growing shift towards rail travel, offering visitors the freedom to travel responsibly without compromising on comfort or experience. This reflects the resort’s long-term sustainability vision, with the launch this winter of the “Preserve Val d’Isère”campaign, which forms part of its wider programme of ongoing sustainable development initiatives. The resort aims to make the destination zero-litter and low-impact by 2030, reinforcing its role as a leader in responsible mountain tourism.

Beyond sustainable travel, Val d’Isère’s 2025/26 winter season brings a host of exciting new developments. Visitors can look forward to new luxury chalets and hotels, innovative on-mountain experiences, and the 70th edition of the legendary Critérium de la Première Neige. Families will find even more to enjoy with new creative workshops for children and free lift passes for under-eights, while food lovers can discover a range of new restaurants and reimagined dining spaces. Together, these additions promise another exceptional season in one of the world’s most celebrated ski destinations.
