Super Nanny On Snow: Why Parents Are Booking Ski Holidays For The Childcare

After carrying out a YOUGOV poll, 80% of parents* reveal that the biggest barrier to booking a ski holiday is a multitude of easily resolvable concerns. Here's how to embrace a ski holiday with children with insider tips from the ski experts at VIP SKI.

Things to consider:

  • Check the childcare age limits and ratios – not all kids’ clubs take infants.
  • Prioritise ski-in/ski-out accommodation – less hassle with little legs.
  • Is there a playroom on site? – space to burn off energy matters.
  • Are meals and snacks child-friendly and flexible?  Those hangry 4pm meltdowns are real.
  • Look for flexibility – VIP SKI’s nannies adapt to your schedule, not the other way round.

Every family approach ski holidays differently, some enlist grandparents for childcare, others make do with local, often non-English-speaking kids’ clubs. But at the heart of it all lies the same challenge: striking that elusive balance between happy children, grown-ups on the slopes, and a holiday that feels like a genuine break and not just soft play at altitude with added snow.

If you want to head to the slopes this winter, it might come as a surprise, but booking a ski holiday with dedicated childcare can actually save you money, time and a lot of hassle.  Rather than juggling ski school logistics, vetting local providers, and planning around the weather, having a kids’ club or nanny service built into your accommodation means everything runs more smoothly - making the holiday more enjoyable for everyone.

Lucy Sloman, Childcare Manager at VIP SKI, says; “At VIP SKI, we believe family ski trips should feel special and not chaotic. VIP SKI’s in-house childcare is designed to take the stress out of the week, with experienced staff who know how to keep little ones warm, safe, and entertained, so parents can enjoy the mountains without the guilt (or the logistical faff). It’s all about creating the kind of holiday where everyone gets to relax and no one’s left sitting in a chalet with a soggy boot and a sense of humour failure”.

VIP SKI reports a spike in demand for on-site nannies across the whole programme as Brits book ski holidays this season. The rise in bookings follows a steady trend in more families securing childcare as a 'must have' to enhance their ski experience - with 5.5 days with a nanny costing £880 per family (based on 2 kids). Private nannies are based in guest’s chalets and work seven consecutive hours each day between 8am and 8pm – with a have half a day off on a Thursday.

The spike follows a 6% growth in infant and child passengers post covid for the ski provider, with little ones now representing almost 20% of VIP SKI guests.

VIP SKI nannies aren’t just babysitters. They’re more Mary Poppins in snow boots, the VIP SKI nanny experience boasts deluxe snowman building, access to the best sledging areas, trips up the mountains and most importantly on-tap luxury hot chocolates.

VIP SKI nannies undergo rigorous training at the start of the season; as well as updating their health and safety qualifications, they learn paediatric first aid, fire safety and food hygiene. They also have sessions in practical cooking, basic French, indoor and outdoor play, and even how to sledge safely.

Alas not everyone can foot the private ski nanny bill for adult-only time. VIP SKI also offer ‘Bear Cubs’ and ‘Polar Bears’ with a five-day bill starting around £300 for kids aged 4 months to 12 years old.

Perhaps the bougiest childcare in Europe, shows millennial parents or new parents post-covid are keener than ever before to bring very small children to the slopes.

VIP SKI is offering an exclusive first-year launch rate for La Plagne, with an additional earlybird saving available until 31 October 2025. At Graciosa, families can also take advantage of generous discounts: in rooms with bunk beds, a third or fourth guest receives 50% off the adult price, making it even easier to bring the whole family along
