Sugarloaf To Open New England’s Newest Lift-Serviced Bike Park

This summer, Sugarloaf will debut New England’s newest lift-serviced downhill mountain bike park, opening on July 4, with gravity-fed trails and stunning mountain views for riders of all abilities. The new Sugarloaf Bike Park marks a major milestone in the resort’s ongoing 2030 development plan, with a top-to-bottom flow trail launching the experience.
The park’s debut trail, Emerald, is a machine-built, 3-mile intermediate flow trail designed for both seasoned beginners and experienced riders looking for fast, fun laps. With smooth rollers, countless berms, and progressive optional features, Emerald sets the tone for a modern bike park experience that’s accessible yet thrilling.
Riders will access the park via the Whiffletree Quad, gaining 1,050 feet of vertical per lap—an ideal elevation for fast returns and big smiles. More trails are in development, with a new machine-built beginner trail expected to open early Fall.
"This is just the beginning," said Adam Craig, Sugarloaf’s Bike Park Manager. “Emerald is the first step in activating a world-class riding experience that will continue to grow every season. The lift access bike park is a great complement to the sprawling XC network that exists here in Carrabassett Valley, thanks to the work of the Town of Carrabassett Valley trail crew.”
Craig, a former Olympian and multi-time national champion, joined the Sugarloaf team to spearhead mountain bike programming, race development, and trail design. Originally from Maine, he raced at Sugarloaf as a teenager and brings decades of racing, trail advocacy, and industry experience to his new role.
In addition to the new flow trail, the Whiffletree lift also provides access to Sugarloaf’s natural Enduro and Downhill race courses, including tracks used in previous Enduro World Cup and Eastern States Cup events. Trails like Widowmaker Extension, Jackpot, and Rookie River offer steep, technical descents through rock gardens and root webs. A short ride west leads to Rock Lobster, a hybrid trail with both machine-built and natural segments. Further afield, a quick pedal up Peavy X-Cut unlocks access to the Crusher DH—a fast, rugged mix of natural terrain and big, machine-built features.
The Sugarloaf Bike Park is part of the resort’s broader vision to expand its summer offerings and attract outdoor adventurers beyond the winter months. With the Carrabassett Valley already a celebrated mountain bike destination, the addition of lift-serviced trails promises to elevate the region to new heights.
The Sugarloaf Bike Park opens Thursday, July 4, 2025. Day tickets and season passes will be available at sugarloaf.com.
