Sugarbush To Host Vermont’s First Fresh Hops Festival

As part of Sugarbush’s annual Community Weekend, the resort will be hosting its first Fresh Hops Festival on Sunday, October 10th. The event, the first of its kind in Vermont and one of the first on the east coast, brings ten innovative Vermont breweries together to feature the unique flavors of fresh hopped beer.

Fresh hopped beer is only brewed during the early autumn harvesting season due to a very short shelf life, usually less than 24-36 hours. Beers brewed with fresh hops tend to have a distinctively “green” flavor profile, without the classic bitterness that more hoppy beers like an IPA often have.

Ten Vermont brewers will be participating in the inaugural festival including Lawson’s Finest Liquids, Collaborative Brewing, Weird Window Brewing, Upper Pass Beer Company, Lucy & Howe Brewing Company, Kraemer & Kin, 14th Star Brewing Company, GoodWater Brewery, Black Flannel Brewing Company, and Eden Specialty Ciders. The hops will be provided by two Vermont farms including Wicked Bines Farm and Champlain Valley Hops.

Tickets are currently available for purchase, with the event capped at 300 participants. Guests will receive a pour card for fifteen 5 oz. pours and a commemorative Fresh Hops Festival glass. Non-drinkers and designated drivers are welcome to join and will not require a ticket. Live music by the Vermont Bluegrass Pioneers and various food options will also be on site. The event runs from 12:00 – 4:00 PM.
