Solo Skiing Is Having a Moment In 2025/2026

Recent studies from Statista show that nearly half of solo travellers plan to explore even more often and ski is part of the mix. This booming trend is reflected across social media, where the #solotravel hashtag has been used over 10 million times on Instagram.
More Brits than ever are hitting the slopes solo because they want to. Luxury chalet operator VIP SKI has reported a trend over the past three seasons with 45% increase in solo ski bookings, as travellers ditch reluctant friends or family and embrace the freedom of skiing alone.
Currently this coming season’s bookings has already matched last year’s solo bookings in full, with numbers continuing to rise. Rather than being niche or lonely, solo ski holidays are increasingly sociable as they offer flexibility, shared chalets, and the chance to meet like-minded people on the mountain.
“We’ve seen a real shift,” says Gareth Crump, Sales Director at VIP SKI. “People aren’t waiting around for someone to say yes to a trip anymore. They’re realising that skiing solo doesn’t mean skiing alone. Our chalets are friendly, our guides are welcoming, and we’ve made it easier and more affordable to go for it.”
To meet demand, VIP SKI has tailored its holidays for solo skiers with catered chalets ideal for individual bookings, no-single-supplement deals and complimentary transfers from Geneva. There’s also guided ski hosting at Bear Lodge in Les Arcs and Bellevarde Lodge in Val d’Isère on the first two mornings of every stay which is a perfect way for guests to find their ski legs and make new ski buddies.
The urge to carve out time for oneself is on the rise as The Adventure Travel Conference recently reported a 23% year-on-year increase in solo bookings from the 35–44 age group, with 16% of all new travellers now going solo.
Whether they’re seeking freedom, better company on the mountain, or just want to ski their way, more people are discovering that the best way to hit the slopes... is solo.
