Doppelmayr Builds Its First Ropeways In Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is committed to sustainable, modern, and regionally rooted tourism. In the eastern part of the country, the new Ala-Too Resort is currently being developed, with the goal of offering both local and international guests a wide range of activities all year round. Doppelmayr is constructing two combined lifts for the resort. On August 8, 2025, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov and Michael Doppelmayr officially laid the foundation stone for the ski and all-season resort.

Kyrgyzstan is characterized by an impressive mountain landscape. In the Issyk-Kul region in the east of the country, a flagship project for winter sports in Central Asia is taking shape: the Ala-Too Resort. The project spans three areas – Jyrgalan, Ak-Bulak, and Boz-Uchuk – and will offer guests more than 200 km of ski slopes, numerous hiking trails, hotels, restaurants, a traditional ethno- village, and much more. Doppelmayr is constructing two D-Line combined lifts in Jyrgalan. Combining 6-seater chairs and 10-passenger cabins, these lifts offer maximum flexibility for both operators and passengers. Together, the installations will span a total length of four kilometers and will be used for both winter skiing and summer operations. Turnkey handover is scheduled for spring 2026.

The official foundation stone for the Ala-Too Resort was laid on August 8, 2025. During the ceremonial event, Kyrgyz President, Sadyr Zhaparov, emphasized the importance of tourism development and the high quality standards being prioritized in the project’s execution. This is also a very special project for the Doppelmayr Group. In his speech, Michael Doppelmayr pointed out: “We are very proud to have been trusted to take part in building the first modern resort in the history of Kyrgyzstan. This project is not only a milestone for the region, but also a symbol of progress, collaboration, and confidence in the future.” These are Doppelmayr’s first ropeway projects in Kyrgyzstan.

The master plan for the Ala-Too Resort is being supported and developed by Input Projektentwicklungs GmbH, a company of the Doppelmayr Group. The implementation is planned in three phases. The first phase focuses on the Jyrgalan area, where two Doppelmayr combined lifts will be constructed by 2026. In the second phase, additional slopes and infrastructure will be developed in Ak-Bulak. The project will be completed with the development of Boz-Uchuk and the interconnection of all three areas.

The Doppelmayr Group represents quality, technology and market leadership in the construction of ropeway systems for passenger and material transport as well as high-tech intralogistics solutions. The company looks back on 130 years of corporate history and a century of experience in the planning, development, design, production, and construction of ropeways.
