Snow Space Salzburg Starts Construction Of New Flying Mozart Gondola

The project of skiing over 12 peaks and 5 valleys is taking shape with the construction of the Flying Mozart gondola from Wagrain / Kirchboden to the Grießenkar. At the beginning of the winter season 2021/22, the 33-year-old gondola lift will be replaced by a new, ultra-modern 10-seater gondola lift.
Due to the decision of the Austrian federal government to extend the official lockdown of the hotel and catering industry, the Snow Space Salzburg Bergbahnen decided to resume construction work on the ultra-modern 10-seater Flying Mozart gondola earlier than originally planned. Already yesterday, on Monday February 22nd, the demolition of the old runway started and construction work for the new one continued.
On Sunday, winter sports enthusiasts had the last opportunity in Snow Space Salzburg to take the Flying Mozart gondola from Wagrain Kirchboden to the ski area, which was built in 1988. In the past 33 years, the railway has completed 58,000 operating hours and has carried a total of 33.7 million winter sports enthusiasts and hikers accident-free to the Grießenkar, located at 1,991 meters above sea level.
Wolfgang Hettegger, CEO of Snow Space Salzburg Bergbahnen, was optimistic about the very last ride of the Flying Mozart gondola: “We are aware of our responsibility as a leading tourist company and the radiance of the Flying Mozart gondola NEW construction project. The decision taken to resume construction work earlier than originally planned and to complete the new, ultra-modern 10-seater gondola lift by the winter season 2021/22 should be a clear signal to the many tourist businesses in our region that things are going uphill again after the total failure of this winter season and completely different winters will await us in the next few years. "
The new building of the Flying Mozart gondola represents one of the three central pillars for the generation project “Skiing over 12 peaks and 5 valleys” and puts Wagrain at the center of the new large ski area. With the new Panorama Link connection between Wagrain and Kleinarl / Flachauwinkl, the first milestone project was successfully put into operation at the beginning of this winter season. The Winkl-Link cable car, also planned for this summer, between the ski areas Shuttleberg Flachauwinkl / Kleinarl and Flachauwinkl / Zauchensee completes the new ski connection and makes the region one of the largest and most varied winter sports destinations in the Alps.
The new Flying Mozart Bahn will conquer the 970 vertical meters on the Grießenkar in less than 11 minutes and transport up to 4,000 guests per hour uphill (currently 2,500 people). The Doppelmayr gondola lift is one of the most powerful monocable gondolas in the world. Long waiting times at the valley or middle station will definitely be a thing of the past. The 142 significantly larger Omega-V gondola cabins convince with ergonomic individual seats with heated seats and a modern, bright design with lots of glass and maximum legroom. As an absolute novelty, the high-tech cabins will be equipped with integrated lighting and free Wi-Fi and with additional features make the gondola ride an experience for the guest. In addition, the gondola cabins offer enough space for prams,
On Monday, the ski operation in Snow Space Salzburg was relocated to the Rote 8-seater gondola, so local winter sports enthusiasts can continue to use the current optimal weather and slope conditions for skiing. With the opening of the Red 8-seater gondola, the facilities in the Kinderland Wagrainis Winterwelt at the middle station of the Red 8-seater gondola are open again every day. In the coming weekends, additional cable cars will be put into operation in all three locations (Flachau, Wagrain, St. Johann / Alpendorf), offering guests an extensive range of slopes and cable cars in Snow Space Salzburg, starting on Friday in good weather.
