Schladming-Planai: - Positive Building Permit For New 8-seater Chairlift “Mitterhausalm I”

In the presence of 20 government representatives, experts, and local residents, the official permit for the construction of the new 8-seater chairlift "Mitterhausalm I" was granted on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, under the auspices of the Cable Car Ministry. This marks another important step toward the realization of this pioneering project. The state-of-the-art system from cable car manufacturer Doppelmayr will replace the existing 4-seater "Sonneck" chairlift and, starting in the 2025/26 winter season, will offer numerous benefits to guests in Schladming's four-mountain ski area.
"With the positive building permit, we can now begin the construction phase with renewed motivation. My special thanks go to the landowners, the authorities and experts, the market town of Haus im Ennstal, and our supervisory board, who supported this project. Our new 8-seater chairlift "Mitterhausalm I," together with the planned Hauser Kaibling transmitter cable car, will raise the connection between the Planai and Hauser Kaibling to a new level starting in December 2025," emphasizes Dir. Georg Bliem, Managing Director of Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen.
Modern technology and maximum comfort
The new, state-of-the-art 8-seater chairlift "Mitterhausalm I" will initially operate with a capacity of 2,600 people per hour and a total of 31 chairs. This represents a significant increase compared to the previous 4-seater chairlift "Sonneck," which carried 1,650 people per hour. Upon completion, the new lift will be expanded to a capacity of up to 3,000 people per hour and 36 chairs. Heated seats, covers, and comfortable upholstery ensure maximum seating comfort even on cold days. Demolition of the old lift will begin immediately, and the official groundbreaking ceremony will take place in early June in the presence of Governor Mario Kunasek. The new 8-seater chairlift is scheduled to begin operations in December 2025.
