Schladming-Dachstein: Summer Stronger Than Winter For The First Time

The Styrian holiday region recorded more than 1.8 million overnight stays from May to October

The Styrian holiday region Schladming-Dachstein finally takes stock of the past summer season - and this is extremely positive: With more than 1.8 million overnight stays between May and October, the strongest tourism summer of all time was recorded, this even surpassed the winter season. Mathias Schattleitner, Managing Director of the Schladming-Dachstein Tourist Board, is satisfied: "We are very pleased that our vision of developing the region into a successful year-round destination has now become reality."

The head of tourism emphasizes that the industry is currently in challenging times: "We are all the more grateful that we can follow this successful path in tourism in the region with all those involved in tourism, companies and employees. Together we have achieved the goal, the low seasons to invigorate more."

One of the five largest tourist destinations in Austria

Compared to the equally strong summer of the previous year, overnight stays in Schladming-Dachstein increased again by 3.4 percent. If you take the “pre-Corona season” 2019 as a comparison value, the plus is even 14 percent. Schladming-Dachstein has long since established itself as the absolute top holiday destination in the Alps, even in summer. With a total of more than 3.7 million overnight stays per year, the Schladming-Dachstein holiday region is already one of the five largest tourist destinations in Austria.

Leading region with a wide variety of offers

In the region in the upper Enns Valley, around 1,000 kilometers of hiking trails, 25 mountain bike routes and 26 via ferratas are available for guests in summer. There are also four golf courses at the highest level and a range of activities ranging from rafting and canyoning to archery and paragliding. The “summer card” proves to be an important success factor for this development. Guests appreciate the many attractive inclusive services such as free use of the eight summer cable cars, public transport, bathing lakes and many other excursion destinations.
