Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn Lists Improvements For 20 -21 Season

As Europe counts down to a winter of muted après-ski, SalzburgerLand’s Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn invites visitors to turn in early and make the most of Austria’s largest ski network. Easy access to 408km of varied pistes using the Ski ALPINCARD lift pass more than makes up for lost time in the disco, and 110 cosy mountain huts offer hearty fuel and lashings of socially distanced gemütlichkeit. The FIS decision to bring the Alpine Ski World Championships to Saalbach Hinterglemm in 2025 is a ringing endorsement of the Skicircus pistes and ski infrastructure

RESORT IMPROVEMENTS

new 300m ski route between Bernkogel and the Schattberg X-press in Saalbach Hinterglemm replaces the inconvenient walk. The new Rosswald Reservoir at Hinterglemm (completion December 2021) will more than double the valley’s snowmaking capacity and create a summer attraction with watersports and sunbathing in a beautiful setting.

The Ski ALPINCARD lift pass covers the Skicircus (270km of piste), Zell am See’s Schmittenhöhe area and the snowsure Kitzsteinhorn Glacier at Kaprun: skiing guaranteed from November to May. The new Alpin Card Navigator App (free to download) is a user-friendly SatNav-style audio-visual system for ski guidance, route planning, connecting with friends, and up-to-the-minute lift information with closure prompts.

NON-SKIERS

This Shangri-La for skiers is equally idyllic for non-skiers. New this winter are twice-daily free guided walks with qualified guides. Explore 140km of winter hiking trails well away from the rush of skiers. For the young, there are medals to win for completing the new 5-task Kid’s Winter Challenge: Reiterkogel toboggan run, Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps and Treetop Trail walk, Kogel summit cross climb, Hinterglemm ice skating circuit, lantern-lit walk. Other activities include  Europe’s fastest and longest zip-wire, the Flying Fox XXL; Alpine roller coaster rides (included in the lift pass), snowshoeing and horsedrawn sleigh rides.

APRES-SKI

The après-ski volume mood has shifted from wild to civilised: it’s all about gastronomy and stylish relaxation in the laid-back ‘Home of Lässig’. Groups are limited to a maximum of 10 people (seated only) with one-metre distancing in every venue. All regulations are in accordance with Government directives*, updated daily at: https://www.salzburgerland.com/en/corona-virus/)

SKICIRCUS INFORMATION

Only an hour from Salzburg airport, the Skicircus straddles SalzburgerLand and Tirol provinces  thanks to the high-speed TirolS gondola, connecting Saalbach’s Reitkogel to Fieberbrunn in Tirol.  Skiers can supplement the Skicircus’s 270km of piste by taking the blue piste from Saalbach’s Polten chair-lift to Viehhofen and heading up to Zell am See’s Schmittenhöhe via the zellamseeXpress, with onward links to the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier at Kaprun. On return, a new lift to replace the 5km bus ride from Viehhofen to Saalbach will open in December 2021, creating Austria’s largest linked ski region and one of the largest in Europe. Set a full day aside for the Skicircus The Challenge (65km, 32 lifts, 12,400m altitude change), a 7-hour marathon to rival the most demanding ski circuits in the Alps. On other days make the most of the cruisy pistes, gastro huts, powder runs and wellness facilities.

  • Saalbach/Hinterglemm is for fun-loving families, groups and individuals. Colourful village atmosphere and superior gastronomy, with pedestrianised zones and accommodation along the piste or in easy walking distance of a lift.
  • Leogang – officially Saalfelden Leogang – is for a more sporty holiday, in peaceful surroundings; sustainable hotels with ski-in/ski-out or near-lift locations; impressive snowparks, cross-country skiing, natural ice rink.
  • Fieberbrunn is great for families, and freeriders: the steep powder bowls beneath the Wildseeloder summit have been a permanent fixture on the Freeride World Tour since inception (2008). Extensive cross-country and ski-touring routes.
