Renewal Of The Golmerbahn Cabins Goes Ahead

As reported by SIN, in 2020, the operator decided to replace the 25-year-old equipment. The preliminary investigations by the cable car company showed that the existing vehicles (type 951S0023-25 - manufacturer Koberl, Bludenz) can be exchanged for new vehicles (type Omega IV) with a capacity of 8 people. In the course of the renovation, a level walk in to the vehicles from the platform should be possible. The existing clamps will continue to be used, the suspension rod and the vehicle cabin will be completely renewed. The freedom of movement and the clearance dimensions were tested with a specially manufactured dummy in real operation on the railway. From the original 127 vehicles a reduction to 110 new vehicles must be expected due to the higher weight.

These in turn offer 8 people enough space, like the previous ones. A significant improvement in comfort compared to the old cabins is achieved by the fact that the entrances are level and without a step (level walk in) and that the room height can be increased. Thanks to the fold-out benches, the transport of goods (food, luggage, etc.) can also be carried out much more easily. In addition, the entrances and exits to the railway in all stations are designed to be barrier-free. Passenger elevators will be installed in Latschau and Matschwitz for this purpose. 10 of the 110 new gondolas are designed in a special design with Golmi. Another highlight is that at the push of a button Golmi or Golmine tells the children an exciting story while driving. Before the railway can go into operation in December 2021, extensive modifications will be necessary in the stations. The execution of the work must be planned precisely, as the railway still has to be in operation in the summer season.

In all stations, the entry platforms must be raised by up to 7cm in order to be able to achieve level entry.

So that access to all platforms in all stations is also barrier-free, a new access ramp will be installed in the Vandans valley station in the access to the ascent, and in the intermediate stations Latschau and Matschwitz new passenger lifts will be installed on the uphill and downhill side from the access level on the ground floor to the platform level provided on the upper floor.

In addition, in the course of these renovations in the intermediate station Latschau, a new snow groomer garage and a new garbage room will be realized on or in the existing building.

The conversion of the cable car to new cabins and barrier-free entrances will take place during the Golmerbahn's break between summer operation in 2021 and winter operation in 2021.
