Pond Skimming By Tower Bridge - Potters Fields Park Was Transformed Into A Ski Slope This Weekend By New Zealand Merino Wool Brand Icebreaker

On Saturday 11 October, hundreds of Londoners turned out to try pond skimming - the adrenaline-fuelled winter sport that sees skiers and snowboarders attempt toSome description glide across a pool of icy water without falling in.
The event, dubbed Skim City, was hosted by icebreaker - the New Zealand merino wool performance wear brand - to mark its 30th anniversary.
Set against the backdrop of Tower Bridge, the pop-up was covered in 70 tonnes of real snow, creating an alpine scene in the heart of the capital.
Crowds gathered as some of the best names in the UK snowsports community showed off their balance (and bravery) before handing things over to the members of the public.
With professional instructors from Maison Sport on hand to help guide those perfecting their balance, plenty of Londoners swapped trainers for skis to give pond skimming a go - some making it across the water, others taking an inevitable splash to the delight of the crowd.
The free-to-watch event combined live music, family fun and apres-style energy, bringing a taste of mountain life to the city. For many, it was their first brush with snow this season - and definitely their first time seeing it at the foot of Tower Bridge.
icebreaker’s Skim City not only marked the brand’s 30th anniversary, it highlighted the brand’s key message of Move To Natural - an invitation for us all to opt for fewer man-made materials in our activewear.
As the sun set on the Thames and the last competitors dried off, the message was clear: adventure doesn't mean leaving the city - and nature can exist even in the most urban corners of London.
