POMA INSTALLS THE FIRST PUBLIC ROPEWAY TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM IN THE CARIBBEAN

In Santo Domingo, the President of the Dominican Republic Danilo Medina has inaugurated the first urban gondola lift in the Caribbean built by POMA. More than ever, POMA confirms its leadership in urban transportation in Latin America with this new installation, which will be followed in 2019 by the 6th metrocable line in Medellin (Colombia) and in 2020 by the 1st Aerovia line in Guayaquil (Republic of Ecuador).

Since May 22, a 195-carrier aerial tramway has been flying over the oldest city in the New World. It provides an easy and fast connection between the city center and the north-eastern part of the city, flying twice over the Ozama River.
This aerial tramway line comes just at the right time as traffic in Santo Domingo is increasingly heavy due to the growing urban population. Yet it was impossible to create blockages in already dense and congested areas, particularly at the entrances to the main bridges.
By working with POMA within a consortium with the local builder J. FORTUNA, URBE1 offers users a new means of efficient transport, guaranteeing a capacity of 3,000 people per hour and per direction through four stations, reaching around 10 million passengers per year. Directly connected to the metro, spread over 5 km and 36 towers, the Teleferico Santo Domingo enjoys a small environmental footprint.
