POMA Highlights Work On Sigma Diamond Cable Car At Egypt’s Galala City

POMA is proud to highlight a remarkable engineering feat in Egypt's urban development and tourism sector: the Sigma Diamond Cable Car at Galala City.
This project is a true marvel, seamlessly blending advanced technology with breathtaking aesthetics.
Stretching 4.37 km and featuring a 611-meter altitude difference, it connects the Galala Plateau to the Red Sea, offering one of the longest stretches of its kind in the Middle East and Africa.
The system's Sigma Diamond cabins are a spectacle themselves, with unique designs, panoramic windows, and even glass floors to provide an immersive visual journey. Operating at 5 m/s, it ensures a smooth and efficient experience for the 250 passengers it can transport per hour.
Equipped with a POMA Direct Drive motorization and a complete computer network for real-time diagnostics and ticketing, this cable car is more than just a ride—it's a strategic infrastructure development that boosts tourism and showcases Egypt's commitment to modern, sustainable solutions.
A fantastic example of how innovative engineering can shape a new city's identity
The tourist gondola lift of the new town of Galala City links the urban area to the luxurious seaside resort, travelling the longest stretch in the Middle East. Its glass-floored cabins offer an exceptional journey with a unique view of the superb desert landscapes that border the Red Sea.

Begun in October 2015, the Galala City project, Egypt's second largest construction site after the new Suez Canal, is a symbol of modernity in the country. It is based on three strategic areas of development: the creation of an urban area at the top of the Al Galala Plateau, the development of a new industrial area, including several desalination factories, and an expanded tourist offer.
To make for smoother communication between the residential area and the Ain Sokhna tourist coast, POMA has installed a gondola lift.
With a total length of 4.37 km and an elevation difference of 611 m, the tourist gondola lift offers Galala City residents direct, quick access to the beach, with a panoramic view of the spectacular landscapes that border the Red Sea.
