Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal Bergbahnen Undertaking Renovation Of The Möserbahn

The Möserbahn cable car has been in operation since the winter of 1999/2000 and is one of the most important facilities in the Oberstdorf • Kleinwalsertal Bergbahnen ski area. It will undergo extensive technical renovations in the summer of 2025.
The detachable six-seater chairlift is undergoing a technical and visual makeover. The entire facility is being overhauled at a total cost of approximately €2.5 million. Once all work is completed in the fall, it will be reopened, including all necessary inspections and approvals, so that the Möserbahn will be available again in time for the 2025/26 winter season and will continue to transport our guests safely, quickly, and smoothly to the slopes of the Fellhorn.
What exactly is being changed/renewed?
- The railway was taken out of service, mechanical components were dismantled
- The gearbox (weighing approximately 10,000 kg) and the AC electric motor (approximately 2,500 kg) were removed at the end of April. The roof of the valley station was opened and then closed again specifically for this purpose. The electric motor will be replaced with a new AC motor, and the gearbox will be completely overhauled by Leitner at their factory in the interest of sustainability. After this extensive overhaul, it will be reinstalled.
- In addition to the overhauled gearbox and the new drive, the control line in the stations will also be renewed, new hood closing rails will be installed, switches and sensors and the entire associated control technology will be renewed.
- In addition to the actual cable car technical measures, the chair rails will also be renewed, child safety locks will be installed on the rails, and the appearance of the stations and chairs will be adapted to the corporate design of the Oberstdorf • Kleinwalsertal Bergbahnen.
- A lot is also happening at the entrance to the ride. The aging concrete tray containing the conveyor belt between the queue and the boarding point has been replaced, as the old tray had settled somewhat over the years. The conveyor belt itself, which transports up to six passengers at a time from the barriers in front of the boarding gate to the boarding point itself, is also being replaced. The positions of each individual passenger will be visualized and displayed more precisely using lights in the floor, making it easy for everyone to find the exact position at their respective seat.
They say "For the first time in Germany, the new Möserbahn cable car's locking bar position will be monitored by a camera system. This step goes beyond the prescribed safety requirements and serves to improve and facilitate the safety of our guests as well as the work of our employees. If a safety bar is not properly closed, the lift will automatically slow down and a warning message will be displayed on the next support."
