Norway Names Alpine Team For Coming Season

The Norwegian Alpine Ski Association has selected 34 athletes with A, B and C status for the 2023-2024 season.

The Norwegian skiers have put their best season ever behind them , where Norwegian athletes gained a total of 7,611 World Cup points. This is a record for the alpine national team. Norway took 16 individual World Cup victories, respectively 14 for the men and two for the women, as well as a victory in the team event in the World Cup final in Andorra. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde won the downhill cup and drove into second place in the World Cup overall. Lucas Braathen won the slalom cup and came fourth overall, while Henrik Kristoffersen came second in both the slalom and giant slalom cups, as well as third overall. Ragnhild Mowinckel was third in the Super G Cup and sixth overall. Jesper Saltvik Pedersen continues to break records, and had a season with overall victory in the World Cup, victory in the slalom, giant slalom and downhill cup.

The WC in Courchevel/Meribel was one of several highlights this winter, where Maria Tviberg (individual parallel) and Henrik Kristoffersen (slalom) became world champions. In total, Norway was the second best nation with nine medals, which was clearly the most of all. In the Para WC in Espot in Spain, Jesper Saltvik Pedersen was the best performer with four gold and one bronze medal.

"With this selection, we wanted to make arrangements to be able to ensure through the team structure an offer so that we can have impactful teams that can deliver results at the highest level for both genders and in all disciplines. It is a clear objective to deliver on the international arena. We have a lot of good younger athletes in Norwegian alpine sports, so it is important that we can facilitate the creation of the best results at the highest level, as well as ensure the growth of new talents who will take the step up in the future," said sports manager in alpine i Norwegian Ski Association, Claus Johan Ryste.

At European Cup level, the alpine national team continues the practice of those who deliver at FIS level being given the opportunity to try their hand at European Cup races. If the athletes deliver at the top at European Cup level, they will be able to qualify to start in the World Cup.

There is no championship for the winter, but the schedule includes many of the great classics, and everything is in place for an exciting season.

The speed project that was started in the 2021-2022 season will be continued. It is a program that has a four-year perspective for the provision of qualitative training and schooling of speed culture in collaboration with the Olympiatoppen.

On both European Cup teams, the alpine national teams also continue with athletes who are invited to various gatherings, both ski and bare ground, for matching as before, as part of the preparation for alpine skiers who will qualify for the European Cup races.

The girls' project will be continued with strengthened staffing and follow-up, where the goal is for people to meet more across the various training environments with gatherings both on bare ground and skiing in addition to their domestic arrangements. The aim of the program for alpine skiing is to facilitate qualitative development for our young athletes who will deliver at European Cup level in the future.
