New Record At Tyrolean School Ski Event - 106,500 Ski Passes For Children And Young People

Every Tyrolean child should have the opportunity to ski: That is the goal of Skifahr'n – the Tyrolean school ski campaign. It provides free or heavily discounted ski passes, travel assistance for school classes, affordable equipment rental, and subsidies for the use of ski instructors.

• For the first time, over 100,000 ski passes were issued in the Tyrolean school ski campaign
• Over 1,000 applications for subsidized bus trips to the Tyrolean ski area
• Close cooperation between the State of Tyrol, the Tyrolean Education Directorate and the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce enables a model project

This all-round package, unique in Austria, was a resounding success this year. For the first time in the project's history, the 100,000-person mark was broken. "Skiing is a fundamental Tyrolean sport that is part of our region. That's why I'm delighted that so many Tyrolean children have taken advantage of this offer. Over 106,500 ski passes have been issued. Thanks to the Tyrolean School Ski Campaign, over 46,800 children and young people were able to enjoy a low-cost day of skiing with their teachers this winter. The great interest shows that there is great enthusiasm for skiing and the Tyrolean mountains. My thanks go to the Tyrolean economy: This support offer is possible thanks to the close cooperation with the cable cars, bus companies, and sports retailers," says co-initiator Governor Anton Mattle.

Sports Officer Philip Wohlgemuth, Deputy Governor of Tyrol, emphasizes this and also extends his thanks to Tyrol's schools and teachers: "Every student should have access to an affordable day of skiing. A project like this naturally thrives on the commitment and interest of those it targets: Therefore, thanks to the teachers and schools for their generous support and for contributing to a healthy Tyrolean sports landscape through their participation."

State support for ski experiences

For the 2024/25 winter season, the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce once again provided free (grades 1 to 9) and discounted day ski passes (grades 10 to 13; five euros). In cooperation with Sport 2000 rent, equipment could also be rented inexpensively this year if needed. Another new feature of the Tyrol-wide school ski campaign this year was that every school class from grades 1 to 13 could take advantage of a subsidized bus ride to a ski trip each year: "Over 1,000 applications have been received by the State of Tyrol so far, and targeted funding totaling around 327,000 euros has already been awarded. Nearly 120,000 euros were also provided for school ski courses. Every euro goes towards a healthy and sports-loving next generation. Not only is a piece of Tyrolean identity being conveyed, but above all one thing: sport is fun," says sports representative Deputy Governor Wohlgemuth.

Tyrolean cable cars are committed to supporting young talent in Tyrol

In the previous year, 2023/2024, there were around 43,000 participants – around 99,250 ski passes were issued as part of the Tyrolean School Ski Campaign. Reinhard Klier, chairman and spokesperson for the Tyrolean cable cars, is also very pleased with this year's success. "The initiative enables all schoolchildren to learn to ski from an early age and to have unforgettable experiences in the snow. By providing ski passes free of charge or at a significantly reduced price, our 67 participating cable cars contribute around three million euros annually. Our companies are thus the cornerstone of this campaign, which has been running extremely well for years," emphasizes Reinhard Klier, adding: "The Tyrolean cable cars are not only committed to providing the best conditions for holidaymakers, but are also specifically committed to supporting young talent in their own region."

Ski passes can be applied for multiple times per school group: "School classes who want to enjoy the winter until the end of the season still have the option to apply for passes," says Reinhard Klier, pointing out some of the ski areas that are still open. For example, in addition to glacier ski areas, the lifts in See, Kühtai, Kitzbühel, Alpbach, Mayrhofen, Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach, and Axamer Lizum are open until April 21. Galtür and St. Anton are open until April 22, Obergurgl and Hochgurgl until April 27, and Ischgl until May 4.
