Mexico: President Sheinbaum Announces Cable Car Line 4 Tlalpan-CU – Will Be The Longest In The World

From the Tlalpan district of Mexico City, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that Line 4 of the Cablebus will now cover the distance from Los Pedregales to Ciudad Universitaria in just 40 minutes – a distance that currently takes two hours.
She emphasized that this project would also help ease traffic congestion on Avenida Picacho-Ajusco. She also announced that the federal government would hand over the budget to the Mexico City Municipality; the estimated investment is approximately €250 million.
Line 4 will be part of the existing Cablebús system, which already includes lines in Iztapalapa, Gustavo A. Madero and Chapultepec.
With a length of 11.4 kilometers, Line 4 will be the longest cable car line in the world and will include eight stations: Universidad, Cantera, Perisur, Mercado Hidalgo, Ceforma, Parque Morelos, Cultura Maya and Pedregal de San Nicolás.
65,000 people are to be transported daily; the average travel time is 40 minutes, which represents a saving of approximately 33 percent.
The new line will connect to Metro Line 3, Metrobús Line 1 and Trolleybus Line 12, providing access to the Ciudad Universitaria, the National Institute of Pediatrics (INP), the Fuentes Brotantes National Park, the Miguel Hidalgo Market and the Ecoguardas Environmental Education Center.
The project will benefit approximately 298,000 residents from 30 neighborhoods in Tlalpan and nine in Coyoacán.
The three existing Cablebús lines have already completed more than 160 million journeys; they reduce travel time by 45 percent, are cost-effective, and serve particularly disadvantaged areas.
