Backbone Media recently announced that it has promoted Melissa Atwood to a new role as Managing Director of the agency’s growing Denver office. Atwood joined Backbone in April 2014 at the agency’s Carbondale headquarters and has more than a decade of strategic media planning and buying experience. Throughout her career, she has established herself as a proven leader and marketer in the outdoor and active lifestyle markets.
In her new role leading Backbone’s integrated office of more than 20 public relations, paid and social media professionals in Denver, Atwood will oversee account management, reporting and staffing.
Following a thorough national search, Backbone’s media director and partner Greg Williams was excited for Atwood to fill the role.
“Melissa was clearly the best person for the job, having played a crucial role in our agency development as a whole. She is an excellent addition to our Denver team,” said Williams. “She understands the value of integrated marketing, and under her leadership, we will continue to grow our presence in Denver, while continuing to offer our clients best in class services.”
A Maine native, Atwood previously worked at Garrand Moehlenkamp, a full-service advertising agency, where she oversaw media and advertising operations and also executed search marketing campaigns. Prior to that, she held key roles in media sales at Time Warner Cable.
Atwood added, “I’m excited to take on this new role and to apply my experience and interest in integrated marketing to our client portfolio in Denver. I’m also looking forward to working with our team here as our culture and services evolve.”
Atwood holds a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Maine. She has relocated to the Denver area with her husband and daughter.
