Lower Austria: The “Ski Kids” Campaign Is Conquering The Slopes Again!

Ready, set, go! The successful "Skikids" project is kicking off a new season! On the first and second weekends of December, around 800 children whose primary residence is in Lower Austria will once again have the opportunity to make their first tracks in the snow. "Learning our national winter sport shouldn't be a luxury. Skiing should be an integral and enjoyable part of every childhood. That's why we're once again offering two-day free beginner ski courses for children aged five to twelve," says Provincial Councillor for Sport and Deputy Governor Udo Landbauer, looking forward to the next edition of the program.
For the 19th time, SPORTLAND Lower Austria's unique youth initiative is taking place, which has so far enabled around 12,600 children in Lower Austria to get started in winter sports. The free 2-day beginner's course for skiing or snowboarding includes lunch and lunchtime supervision, as well as a free season pass for a future visit to the same ski resort.
“Healthy exercise in the fresh air, spending time in our beautiful nature and lots of fun – with the ‘Skikids’ campaign we not only give children the opportunity to discover skiing for themselves, but also specifically relieve the burden on our families,” explains Landbauer, outlining the reasons for the joint campaign with the Lower Austrian Ski Association, the Lower Austrian Ski Instructors Association and the Lower Austrian cable cars.
A total of nine local ski resorts are participating, including Annaberg, Hochkar, Jauerling, St. Corona am Wechsel, Hollenstein, Lackenhof, Mitterbach, Mönichkirchen, and Puchberg am Schneeberg. Depending on the location, the courses will take place on December 6th and 7th or December 13th and 14th. A detailed schedule is available on the project website skikids.sportlandnoe.at. In case of inclement weather, the alternative date for all ski resorts is the weekend of December 20th and 21st, 2025.
Registration for the free ski and snowboard courses opens on Monday, November 3, 2025 at 12:00 PM. Registration for the courses begins on Friday, November 14 at 2:00 PM. Both registration and sign-up are only possible on the project website. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
To provide the best possible protection for young winter sports enthusiasts, the state of Lower Austria is once again offering a ski helmet campaign this winter season. The helmet, featuring a distinctive Lower Austrian design, costs €15 and has become an essential part of any winter sports holiday. Orders can be placed in the SPORTLAND Lower Austria online shop at shop.sportlandnoe.at.
