La Sportiva Introduces Fall 21 Apparel Line With Sustainable Technology Focus

La Sportiva has announced the introduction of the brand’s new apparel collection for Fall 2021. This collection embodies the company’s core values of reducing environmental impact by utilizing improved sustainability technologies. Additionally, the brand is reducing its packaging and improving its hang tags, all to further reduce its environmental impact in the apparel supply chain.

“La Sportiva has always been relentless about innovation and as we continue to reduce the environmental impact of our entire brand, the apparel line is a great place to focus,” says Jonathan Lantz, president of La Sportiva North America. “Since insulation has been our best-selling category since we launched our apparel line, I am particularly excited about the new P.U.R.E. down that is 100% recycled. It performs exceptionally well and reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. While improving environmental performance is a process and won’t be solved overnight, our fall 2021 apparel line is an important step forward in our progression. We expect that our customers will agree.”

Of the many new technologies being put forth by La Sportiva, P.U.R.E® Platinum down is an exciting new addition as it’s a fully sustainable natural down with 700+ cu.in fill. This product is characterized by excellent performance in terms of insulation, breathability, and lightness with the same fill power and thermal insulation as virgin down. P.U.R.E. is the first GRS certified recycled down and comes from 100% post-consumer waste, without any blending or mixing with virgin down.

P.U.R.E. down debuts in the new Coldai, Titan, and Atlas jackets for both men and women. The Coldai is La Sportiva’s lightest and most packable down jacket to date. Weighting just 6.9 ounces, this ultralight jacket is essential for any adventure with variable weather. It will retail for $199. The Titan Down Jacket is a midweight piece that is sleek and highly functional with multiple pockets and performance-focused detailing. It will MSRP for $239. The Atlas down jacket is the warmest in the line with maximum insulation to protect on the coldest days. It will carry an MSRP of $279.

Born from the continuous research process in our R&D departments, La Sportiva’s own Evo Shell hardshell styles represent the brand’s own development of high-performance eco-friendly products. The new Evo Shell styles are PFC and PTFE free, while maintaining 20K/20K waterproof breathable performance. A recycled Polyamide face from industrial waste creates high abrasion performance and the membrane and backing are recycled polyester from post-consumer PET bottles.

La Sportiva Evo Shell is utilized in the Sirius Evo Shell and Northstar Evo Shell jackets for men, the Northstar Evo Shell Pant for men, the Firestar Evo Shell jacket for women, and the Firestar Evo Shell Pant for women. Both the Sirius Evo Shell Jacket and the Northstar Evo Shell jackets are perfect for skiing or mountaineering. Both are feature-rich with helmet compatible hoods, versatile storage options and a 3-layer laminate with fully taped seams to keep users protected and dry in the harshest environments. The Sirius will retail for $249 and the Northstar MSRP will be $299. The Northstar Evo Shell Pant is the same 20k/20k waterproof breathability as the jackets and boasts an equally impressive feature set for $249. On the women’s side, the Firestar Evo Shell jacket and pants come with similar features but in styling and fit specialty tailored for women. The Firestar Evo Shell jacket and pant will retail for $249.

For base layers, Amni Soul Eco® is a polyamide yarn with enhanced biodegradability, that reduces the environmental impact and the amount of waste left to future generations. It breaks down into organic matter and eliminates biogas being in about 5 years while other fibers take decades to decompose. This technology is part of a new generation of sustainable yarns coming from processes that respect the environment.

The Amni Soul Eco is utilized for men in the Jubilee T-Shirt and Long Sleeve. Both versatile and comfortable, these base layers provide a great foundation with quick-drying and breathable performance. Body mapped compression, seamless construction, raglan sleeves, and flatlock stitch ing all combine for an excellent base layer at $59 for the T-Shirt and $69 for the Long Sleeve. The Blaze T-Shirt and Long Sleeve for women utilize the same features and technologies for $59 for the T-Shirt and $69 for the Long Sleeve in female-specific styling and fit.

In addition to the sustainable technologies in the apparel pieces, La Sportiva has set the objective of reducing single use plastic in apparel stock management and shipping, La Sportiva has collaborated with suppliers to fold apparel in a new way. This improved efficiency allows styles to fit in smaller poly bags resulting in the overall reduction of plastic. Additionally, to reduce the amount of paper used for hang tags, La Sportiva developed a  smaller format that better fits within the new packaging while still conveying the necessary information to the customer. Both of these improvements, while small, aid in the overall reduction of the brand’s environmental footprint.
