Kodiak Pairs Up With Backbone Media

KODIAK, the 110-year-old Canadian footwear maker, has teamed up with Backbone Media as its public relations agency of record. Backbone will manage the brand’s strategic communications and help Kodiak build brand awareness as it expands its line of performance work and safety boots and outdoor and lifestyle footwear.

Founded in Ontario, Canada, Kodiak has been Canada’s Boot since 1910, outfitting generations of men and women with purpose-built premium boots for daily work and everyday exploration. Based in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, with offices in Stratham, N.H., Kodiak is best known as the maker of the original Greb Kodiak boot, the first truly waterproof work boot made with a combination of vulcanized construction and waterproof leather.

“As we celebrate our 110th anniversary, we are excited about the opportunity to expand Kodiak’s reach to adventure-oriented hard workers with an affinity for premium work and outdoor lifestyle footwear from a timeless, purposeful and trustworthy brand,” said Margaret Morey-Reuner, Director of Marketing at Kodiak.  “Backbone is a proven leader in the active lifestyle marketplace and they are going to be a great partner in telling our story of heritage, craftsmanship and performance.”

Originating in 1910 in Ontario, Canada as the Greb Shoe Co. Ltd. Kodiak is a leader in waterproof leather boots for work, lifestyle and cold weather. Priding themselves in innovative, quality, footwear since their perfection of Canada’s first truly waterproof leather boot in the 1950’s, Kodiak has continued to bring stylish, reliable and durable boots to both the United States and Canada.

“There aren’t a whole lot of 110-year-old brands out there. Kodiak has an incredible heritage and their footwear has been trusted by workers and outdoor enthusiasts for decades,” said Backbone’s VP of PR, Ian Anderson. “We’re excited to introduce Kodiak to more consumers and build brand awareness with new demographics.”
