Incredible Performances On The KAT100 Miles

On Friday at 8:11 pm, Stefan Schaffer (AUT) arrived after 26 hours, 11 minutes and 15 seconds as the overjoyed winner of the KAT100 Miles over 173.7 kilometers and 9,996 meters in altitude at the finish at the village square in Fieberbrunn . There was also a jubilant atmosphere at the Kids Trail in the center of Fieberbrunn.

There is currently a cheering mood in Fieberbrunn and along the route of Austria's longest Ultra Trail. On Thursday at 6 p.m., the starting shot for the KAT100 Miles was given, which will be held both as an Austrian championship and as a qualification run for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB). 100 miles or 173.7 kilometers with an altitude of 9,996 meters were ahead of the 130 starters. While well-trained runners will probably need two days for this and will cross the finish line on Saturday afternoon through the center of Fieberbrunn, Stefan Schaffer (AUT) completed the distance in just 26:11:15 hours, which clearly undercut the 2019 winning time and became the winner. Exhausted but visibly happy, the 43-year-old crossed the finish line to the thunderous cheers of the numerous spectators on the market square in Fieberbrunn. "I'm just overjoyed and super satisfied. I was doing very well right from the start. When the rain came in the night, it was tough, but from morning on it went better and better," said the beaming winner at the finish. The four musketeers had to admit defeat to the winner. The quartet with Michaela Pilat (AUT), Anette Zeidler (GER), Marco Pilat (AUT) and Leni Schneider (GER) only missed the winning time by 22 minutes with 26:33:30 hours. The first Ekiden (relay) and Endurance (91.5 km distance with a finish in Kitzbühel) were celebrated enthusiastically on Friday.

The youngest trail runners were cheered on just as enthusiastically as the KAT100 runners. The kids were not only cheered frenetically by their parents on the trails over 500, 1000 or 1500 meters (depending on age), but the spectators along the entire route also celebrated the six to sixteen year olds.

Today, Saturday, the Marathon Trail as well as the Speed Trail with 24 kilometers and the newly designed Easy Trail take place. The start is again in Fieberbrunn and around 10 p.m. the last finish lines of the KAT100 are expected. You can also find all information and results at www.kat100.at
