Hochfugen Ski Area Installs The Tyrolean Piste Tour Guidance System

From the valley floor to up to 2,500 meters above sea level: In winter 2021/22, two marked ascent tracks await ski tourers on the slopes in Hochfügen. Once you have bought your parking ticket, buckled your touring skis and checked the safety rules, you can climb up on your own. As a special highlight, the popular touring nights starting on December 23rd are waiting for you again this season.

Regardless of whether you are a beginner or an old hand - the two routes in Hochfügen guarantee the best views of the surrounding mountains: “Ski touring is increasingly becoming a popular sport in alpine habitats. The operators of the ski areas have long ceased to see piste tourers as 'annoying guests'. In the meantime, a lot of money is being invested in the guidance and signage as well as in the service for piste tourers, ”confirms ski tour guide Klaus Kranebitter from SnowHow. Thanks to the newly installed Tyrolean piste tour guidance system, tourers in Hochfügen are well informed. The standardized boards show tourers the way to go, the meters in altitude to be overcome and the distance to the destination.

The first opportunity for advancement on Pfaffenbühel starts right at the hikers parking lot in Hochfügen at 1,480 meters. During the approximately two-hour walk, ski tourers overcome around 830 meters in altitude. Over a length of four kilometers, the athletes enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains - the Gilfert and the cow knife stand out in particular.

The second route leads from the valley station of the 6-seater Holzalm chairlift over five kilometers to the mountain station of the Zillertal Shuttle. Ski tourers cover a total of 900 meters in altitude on the ascent. Winter sports enthusiasts experience a breathtaking view over to Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach, the Wimbachkopf, Rastkogel and the legendary Hochfügener Ostwand. For more leisurely walkers, there will be a branch to the Holzalm restaurant from this winter to shorten the tour, to strengthen or to meet the skiing family for lunch.

Weekly tour nights

The popular touring nights will again take place in Hochfügen this season. The first two on Thursdays on December 23rd and 30th, from January 7th to the end of February, on Friday evenings slopes 11, 13 and 14 are transformed into exclusive touring routes - both for the ascent and for the descent. Due to preparation work, all other slopes are closed for the safety of the athletes. “The piste tourers do the best possible for their sport if they adhere to the given rules and stay on the marked climbs and adhere to the given rules,” explains Kranebitter, explaining the prerequisites for safe tours in the ski area. The pizzeria of the 8er-Alm takes care of the physical well-being during the touring nights. This is open for hungry people until 9:00 p.m.

Important note to all piste tourers: switch on headlamps, especially when ascending, but also when descending . Winter sports enthusiasts without lights pose a high risk of collisions. For safety reasons, the edge of the piste and the signposted routes should also be chosen when climbing the vertical meters.
