Helly Hansen Hosts Jacket Drives Across 13 North America Locations

Through the end of the year, the 13 Helly Hansen retail and outlet locations across North America are accepting donations of clean, gently-used winter jackets and delivering them to local organizations supporting homeless, at-risk youth, and disabled populations. So far, more than 120 jackets have been donated and the goal is to collect at least 200 jacket donations before the end of the year.

“For more than 140 years Helly Hansen has been making professional-grade gear to help people stay and feel alive through insights drawn from living and working in the world’s harshest environments,” says Matt Enders, Regional Retail Director, Helly Hansen North America. “We understand that warm, reliable winter gear is not only essential to outdoor professionals, but a basic, fundamental need for everyone, and we want to help more people have access to it through this program.”

The manager of each Helly Hansen store has selected a local organization that will benefit from the donation of these warm winter jackets. As examples, the Helly Hansen on Granville Street in Vancouver, BC, has partnered with the Wildlife Thrift Store to benefit the Covenant House, which helps Vancouver's homeless and at-risk street youth. Donations to the Helly Hansen outlet in Tulalip, WA, will benefit Cocoon House, an organization working to end youth homelessness. In Boulder, CO, the jackets will be delivered to Boulder Emergency Family Assistance Association, which helps families, people with disabilities, and seniors to meet life's basic needs.

“Especially with the weather getting worse, it’s a fundamental importance to have rain gear and winter gear to stay warm and dry when you live on the streets,” says Kail O’Donnell, manager of Wildlife Thrift Store in Vancouver, BC. “These donations will go a long way for a lot of folks.” Adds Kristy Hayter, Senior Manager of Communications for Covenant House Vancouver, “Covenant House Vancouver is beyond grateful for the support from Helly Hansen. Their donations of coats will bring warmth and comfort to young people experiencing homelessness.”

To thank those who donate a jacket, Helly Hansen is providing a discount to be used on the purchase of one full-priced Helly Hansen item. The discount can be used at the time of donation or through the end of the year in-store or online.

“The incentive is to thank our local community patrons and help inspire people to take a closer look at their gear and see what they might be able to donate,” says Enders. “Many of us have the extra time right now to go through the things we have and evaluate what we really need. If you don’t need it, there are a lot of people right now whom it could benefit.”

Donations of washed, gently-used jackets are accepted at all of Helly Hansen’s brand stores and outlets across North America. Donated jackets do not have to be Helly Hansen brand.
