Heidi Reveals Where GB Families Are Choosing To Ski This February Half Term And Why It’s Not Too Late To Book

New data shows that high-altitude French resorts and budget Bulgarian favourites are leading February half-term ski holiday bookings for 2026, with over a quarter of families historically booking less than one month before travel.

If you haven’t booked your February half-term family ski trip yet, you’re not alone. Heidi, the UK’s fastest-growing ski holiday company, reveals that most UK families book their half-term trips surprisingly later than you might expect - often up to just weeks before departure.

Based on family bookings for February half term 2025 and 2026 to date, the data also highlights a shift in where UK families are choosing to ski. Large, high-altitude, snow-sure French resorts are rising in popularity compared to last year, whilst budget Bulgarian favourites continue to hold their ground.

UK families are booking later than you might expect

Despite being one of the busiest and most expensive weeks of the ski season, nearly 70% (69.4%) of February half term 2025 bookings were made within three months of travel, with 25.1% booked less than one month before departure.

Marcus Blunt, Co-founder of Heidi, comments: “Even for peak February half term, most families don’t plan their ski holiday that far ahead. Our data shows a significant number book just weeks before they travel. While leaving it later gives the advantage of knowing where snow conditions are best, waiting until the absolute last minute can mean less accommodation choice and lower availability of ski lessons. So my advice is: there’s still time to book, but don’t wait much later to secure your preferred resort.”

Where UK families are skiing this February half term

While value remains critical for families travelling during school holidays, resort preferences are shifting compared to last year. For February half term 2025, bookings were led by budget-friendly favourites including Bansko (Bulgaria) and Andorran resorts such as La Massana, Pas de la Casa and Arinsal, alongside established family destinations like La Plagne in France.

For February 2026, high-altitude French resorts feature more prominently overall, with Les Arcs, Tignes, Flaine and Avoriaz all climbing family booking rankings as parents prioritise snow reliability, good ski schools and ski areas that cater for mixed abilities.

At the same time, value-led Bansko and Borovets continue to rank among the most popular choices for UK families, while Andorra remains a strong option despite a slight softening in dominance. Austria is also gaining momentum, with Mayrhofen, Zell am See and Seefeld appearing more frequently in 2026 bookings.

Blunt adds: “This February half term, larger French ski resorts are seeing increased demand for family bookings, but budget-friendly resorts like Bansko continue to be very popular. Families can manage costs by travelling midweek, opting for self-catering accommodation, or planning shorter breaks.
