Gurgl Promotes Inclusion As Venue For "VOI Fesch" Art Prize 2023

The fourth edition of the Austria-wide competition "VOI fesch" for artists with disabilities has the motto "Winter Glück". A suitable venue is Gurgl as the diamond of the Alps in the upper Ötztal. 285 participants submitted their works of art as part of the campaign. From this, 30 contributions were nominated by a jury of experts, for which a vote can now be taken by the public. The originals can be admired in the Gurgl Carat Congress Center until December 23rd. Patricia Hütter's work "Colorful mandalas with a difference" is mounted on a gondola and thus draws a lot of attention to the concerns of the campaign.
The "VOI fesch" art prize has been awarded since 2018. The declared goal is to make the artistic potential of people with disabilities visible to the public and to promote it. "We want to give artists with disabilities a stage and bring their creative potential out into society," says founder Helmuth Stöber. A look at the past shows that this has been successful on a large scale. The motifs of the previous winning works of art have already adorned truck trailers, T-shirts or bags. With Gurgl as a partner of the current issue, there is a suitable adaptation. At the start, a gondola from the Rosskarbahn in Obergurgl with the work of art "Colorful mandalas with a difference" by Patricia Hütter will draw the attention of winter sports enthusiasts from all over the world. “In this way, art can help drive inclusion in our society.
Exhibition in the Gurgl Carat
A six-member jury selected the most convincing top 30 from a total of 285 submissions. These can be viewed in the Gurgl Carat Congress and Event Center until December 23 with free entry. "We want to make the exhibits accessible to a broad public," says Dominic Kuen, Gurgl Destination Manager at Ötztal Tourismus. The Ötztal artist Hannah P. Scheiber was also a member of the top-class decision-making committee: “For me, inclusion means that we all have the same rights and freedoms, i.e. also access. There is still a need to catch up here in Austria. That's why I'm happy to support the project." Grand finale in March 2023
The date for the award of the top 15 contributions has already been fixed. On March 28, 2023, the art prize winners will be announced to the public in the Gurgl Carat. The works of the top three winners will be publicly displayed on the gondolas of the Rosskarbahn. Thanks to the support of the Austrian cable car manufacturer Doppelmayr and the Sparkasse Imst AG, it is possible to decorate five more cabins with the works of art. “Inclusion enriches our society with individuality and diversity. I consider that worth striving for, because I think monotony is boring and dangerous,” emphasizes Werner Hanselitsch, Managing Director of the Obergurgl lift company.
