Forest Service Seeks Comments On Chairlift Replacement At Keystone

The White River National Forest seeks public comments on Keystone Ski Resort’s proposal to replace the A-51 Chairlift with a modern detachable quad chairlift.

The current A-51 lift is a fixed-grip, double chair that began operations in 1976. Keystone is proposing upgrading to a detachable quad to increase uphill capacity and provide a better guest experience.

The replacement lift would have a capacity of approximately 2,400 people per hour and would follow the same alignment as the existing A-51 lift. The new lift would support both the A-51 terrain park and multiple teaching trails in the A-51 terrain pod.

“The Dillon Ranger District provides world-class winter recreation opportunities, including four downhill ski resorts on National Forest System lands,” said Acting Dillon District Ranger Amanda Wheelock. “As we review this proposal from Keystone to upgrade their infrastructure, we want to hear any comments or concerns from the public.”

Keystone Ski Resort operates on the White River National Forest under a special use permit. The replacement of the chairlift is within their permitted area.

“The request for review filed by Keystone Resort with the United States Forest Service is part of our standard planning process and is subject to approvals. The project reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing the guest experience at Keystone, as demonstrated by recent investments including the expansion of Bergman Bowl, the upgraded Peru Express lift, significant snowmaking improvements, and the debut of the Kindred Resort this winter.”

Comments will be most helpful if received by October 31, 2025.
