FIS President Eliasch Issues Season End Message

Season end message of FIS President Eliasch

"The ski flying competition in Planica has officially wrapped the 2022-23 season – and it’s one that will live long in our memories.

We saw ‘unbeatable’ records broken, new stars born, athletes showing a level of skill and courage that left spectators on the edge of their seats. We enjoyed brilliant conditions across the FIS World Cups and World Ski Championships, as well as unforgettable camaraderie.

From Soelden, Chur and Ruka to Oestersund, Courchevel/Méribel, Planica, Bakuriani and La Molina, local organisers did us proud by putting on a spectacular show. This was reflected in the viewing figures.

We can feel proud about what happened off the slopes, too, as organisers worked hard to make these events as sustainable as possible. Our World Ski Championships were an excellent example, showing that international sporting events don’t have to sacrifice style or scale in the name of sustainability.

We have also made a lot of progress in other areas: We have completed a consultation phase with our NSAs to finalize our strategic plan; in-sourced all business from FIS MAG to be able to head into a more prosperous future; and enriched our FIS family with the Freeride World Tour and our Para disciplines.

There have been tough times, too – most notably the uncertainty caused by warm weather early in the season. But, with typical resilience and determination, the snow sports family pulled together and found a way through.

We are deeply grateful to all those who made this season happen, on the slopes as well as off. Without your planning, your passion and your dedication none of this would be possible. Together we’re showing that ours is the greatest sport in the world. We can’t wait until the 2023-24 season, which promises a lot more thrills and excitement.

For everything you have done: thank you!

Johan Eliasch
President"
