FIS Alpine Junior World Championships To Begin In Val Di Fassa
Val di Fassa and the Dolomites are ready to host the most important junior event in Alpine skiing. From 18thto 27thFebruary, more than 650 young athletes from 54 nations will participate in the 38thedition of the FIS Junior World Ski Championships, a 10-day-schedule with eleven world titles and 33 medals to be assigned at the two race venues of Pozza di Fassa and Passo San Pellegrino.
Many champions have participated in the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in the past, among them of the current champions Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR), a six-time gold medal winner in the under 21 championships, as well as Lindsey Vonn (USA) and Mikaela Shiffrin (USA).
The FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships Val di Fassa 2019 has already broken records: this edition will welcome more than 56 nations, among them also Madagascar, Taiwan, Kenya, Malaysia, Brazil, Philippines, Puerto Rico and China.
The technical disciplines of slalom, giant slalom and the team event will take place on the Aloch slopes in Pozza di Fassa. It is a taxing and very technical slope, which will be modified for the upcoming event. This slope (avg. inclination 29,2%, max inclination 51,8%) will host the men and ladies slalom (starting at 1560 m finishing at 1360 m), the giant slalom (starting point 1665 m and finishing at 1340 m) and the Team Event (starting at 1425 m and finishing at 1360m).
The speed disciplines of downhill, super-G and alpine combined will be organised in Passo San Pellegrino on La Volat A slope, a 2300-metre-long track with starting point at 2510 and finish line at 1880 m, with a drop of 630 m, an average inclination of 28.4% and maximum inclination of 57%.
Other event venues are Canazei, where the official Opening Ceremony will take place, Moena with its Medal Plaza, Pera di Fassa with the ski rooms and Soraga, location of the Team Captains’ Meeting.
