Thanks to a new partnership with OLOID Engineering GmbH, DEMACLENKO is introducing an entirely new, efficient and energy-saving solution for circulating and aerating water reservoirs used for snowmaking. As an alternative to conventional aeration with compressed-air, the OLOID system offers multiple advantages—while requiring minimal installation and maintenance effort.
The OLOID is a mixing device with a unique geometric shape that generates targeted flow and wave movements in the water through three-dimensional, pulsed motion. This ensures the consistent mixing of water layers and makes the management of storage reservoirs significantly easier. The innovative agitator is mounted on a floating system, making installation simple: the system is placed directly on the water’s surface, is immediately operational and automatically adjusts to changes in the reservoir’s water level. Another benefit: it can be used in both new installations and retrofitted into existing systems.
Efficient temperature layer mixing in reservoirs
In still bodies of water—such as reservoirs—different layers of water form based on temperature. Normally, warmer water stays near the surface while cooler water settles at deeper levels. In winter, this layering reverses due to the anomaly of water: the coldest water (close to 0°C/ 32°F) rises to the top and can freeze, while water at around 4°C/40°F, which is most dense, settles at the bottom. OLOID technology counteracts this natural layering by creating characteristic flow and wave patterns that ensure uniform mixing. This not only prevents the formation of a solid ice layer, but also balances and lowers the overall water temperature.
Lower operating costs with OLOID
Efficient mixing also reduces the energy consumption of the snowmaking system, for instance by optimizing the operation of the water cooling towers or making compressed-air aeration unnecessary altogether. For new projects, OLOID offers an attractive way to cut investment costs: since no pressurized air piping or compressors are required, extensive construction work is avoided and commissioning the OLOID system is quick and easy. The maintenance effort is also kept to a minimum.
Ice-free in winter, algae prevention in summer
The system ensures the water surface remains ice-free during winter. Even in double-digit sub-zero temperatures, OLOID circulation prevents the formation of a closed ice layer. In summer, the system effectively prevents algae growth, improves water quality and significantly reduces cleaning and maintenance requirements. With customizable configurations, the system can be tailored to the specific site conditions and reservoir size.
