Skiers and snowboarders are invited to pursue their passions at The Athlete’s Mountain this winter as Copper Mountain prepares to open for the 2021-22 winter season Nov. 22. From early ups to last chair, Copper Mountain offers experiences for those seeking new challenges and unbounded inspiration.

“It’s an exciting season for the Athlete’s Mountain,” said Dustin Lyman, president and general manager of Copper Mountain. “From elite training and competition, to new beginner area terrain and upgradeable experiences, Copper Mountain is a hub for athletes of all levels to get inspired, be challenged and feel empowered.”

U.S. SKI TEAM SPEED CENTER

Beginning in mid-October, Copper Mountain opens for early season alpine ski race training, including the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center. The world’s best alpine ski racers will be making their way to Copper for on-snow training, including major University and Ski Club/Academy Teams, the U.S. Men’s and Women’s Alpine Ski teams, and national teams from Austria, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden and Slovenia.

BACK-TO-BACK OLYMPIC QUALIFIERS

Another early season staple, Woodward Copper’s 22 ft. Superpipe takes shape at the base of Center Village setting the stage for back-to-back Olympic qualifying events. From Dec. 9-11, the world’s best halfpipe skiers and snowboarders will compete for the first time in North America this season at the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain. From Dec. 16-19, Copper Mountain’s Center Village sets the stage for Winter Dew Tour’s world-class competitions, which - in addition to Halfpipe and Slopestyle - will also feature men’s and women’s Snowboard Adaptive competitions and signature nighttime Streetstyle jam session. Both the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix and Winter Dew Tour events are free and open to the public, inviting spectators to experience the thrill of competition and support their favorite Olympic hopefuls as they throw down their best tricks to earn their spot to the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games.

OPENING DAY NOVEMBER 22

For skiers and riders excited to boot up and get in their own early season turns, Copper’s Opening Day for the 2021-22 winter season is Monday, Nov. 22. Those who choose to start their week at Copper’s Opening Day will be treated to giveaways and a first chair celebration. Festivities continue through the week and into the Thanksgiving holiday weekend with Copper’s annual Snowsation event featuring a free concert on Friday, Nov. 26 followed by fireworks and a snowcat parade. On Saturday, Nov. 27, Snowsation continues with another free live performance. Artists will be announced on Copper Mountain’s social media channels and at CopperColorado.com.

NEW WESTERN TERRITORY

New this season for beginner skiers and families, Copper Mountain has launched a multi-year project on the west side of the mountain’s naturally-divided terrain. The Western Territory is dedicated to inspiring beginner skiers, kids and families to connect with Copper’s history and heritage while encouraging exploration, fun and growth. This season, guests are invited to explore two new family-friendly adventure zones, two new trails and a connector trail, offering skill development and animation that tells the history of western exploration in the area. Looking ahead to future seasons, the multi-year project includes plans to replace the Lumberjack lift to provide better and earlier access to our beginner area.

Copper Mountain’s commitment to protecting the wellbeing of our community remains at the forefront as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. In preparation for the 2021-22 winter season and consistent with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration announcement that vaccines will be required for all employers with over 100 employees, we are requiring all employees to be vaccinated. We believe requiring all staff to be vaccinated is the best way to protect one another, our guests and our communities and is crucial to ending the pandemic. Any additional changes to our mask and vaccination protocols will be determined based on guidance from our local, state and national public health officials.
