Club5 Unites To Strengthen Safety In Alpine Skiing

World Cup Organisers and FIS Officials gathered at Lago Maggiore to share expertise and drive progress in an event hosted by Club5. Club5 Ski Classics is a union of the leading alpine ski race organizers from all over the world.

Club5 was founded in 1988. At that time, the five classic downhill venues in the Alpine World Cup—Kitzbühel, Wengen, Garmisch, Val Gardena, and Val d’Isère—were to be grouped under a single umbrella and marketed together. The goal was also to better convey the high quality of these events in the media. Over the years, additional organizers have joined. Today, the association consists of 21 members: the World Cup organizers of Adelboden, Alta Badia, Åre, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Crans-Montana, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Gröden, Jasna, Kitzbühel, Kranjska Gora (men), Kranjska Gora (women), Kvitfjell, Madonna di Campiglio, Schladming, Sestrière, Soldeu, St. Anton, St. Moritz, Val d’Isère, Wengen, and Zagreb.

The members of Club5 Sport Association convened a two-day technical meeting in Luino, by Lago Maggiore, focused on one of the sport’s most pressing issues: safety.
Hosted by SPM S.p.A., the meeting brought together the FIS race directors for both the men’s and women’s circuits and the slope professionals from various World Cup venues. The gathering served as a collaborative platform to exchange experiences, share know-how, and explore potential innovations to enhance safety standards in alpine ski racing.

The FIS race directors welcomed the initiative, expressing their appreciation for the organisers’ proactive approach and commitment to the collective advancement of the sport. A shared belief emerged among participants: improving safety must remain a top priority for all stakeholders involved.

Club5 President, Mr. Rainer Senoner, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting: “This gathering truly reflects the spirit of Club5: a community of professionals working together to elevate our sport. Safety, collaboration, and communication are pillars of our mission and we all together look forward to the next steps.”
