Chalet Company AliKats Achieves B Corp Certification

Morzine chalet company run by couple Al and Kat Judge has officially achieved B Corp™ Certification, making it one of the few chalet operators worldwide to hold this globally recognised standard for social and environmental impact.

AliKats, founded more than a decade ago, runs 16 luxury chalets in Morzine and has built a reputation as one of the most sustainable operators in the French Alps. Certification marks a major milestone in the company’s mission to donate or invest €1 million in protecting the planet by 2035 and provides an independent benchmark for the positive changes AliKats has been driving for years.

What is a B Corp?

Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are businesses verified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. The process is rigorous, covering five key areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers.

For AliKats, the year-long assessment involved more than 300 questions, multiple verification interviews and extensive evidence submission. Surpassing the minimum score threshold by 13 points, AliKats now joins a growing global movement of companies committed to using business as a force for good.

AliKats balances luxury ski holidays with a lighter footprint:

  • Five years of zero food waste across all chalets
  • Now a Société à Mission, embedding social and environmental responsibility into the company’s DNA
  • All permanent staff give at least one day per month to local, social, or environmental causes
  • Free electric car charging available at all chalets for guests
  • 100% renewable energy powers every chalet
  • Responsible hot tub initiative reduces water and energy use
  • Over €17k donated in 18 months via the Sustainable Mountain Future Fund to Montagne Verte
  • Up to 20% discount for guests arriving by train

AliKats B Corp Journey

Becoming a Certified B Corporation is just the start of AliKats’ journey. The process has given the team a framework for continuous improvement across governance, operations, and community impact.

  • Governance with Purpose: In early 2025, AliKats legally amended its company structure to protect all stakeholders, becoming a Société à Mission under French law. This makes their mission to create positive social and environmental impact a binding legal obligation.
  • A Value-Aligned Workforce: Employees share the company’s sustainability mission, making both big and small tasks more rewarding. Staff wellbeing is prioritised through fair pay, reduced hours, and two full days off per week.
  • Nature as Inspiration: Time in nature is central to AliKats’ ethos, shaping holidays, employee culture, and advocacy for the Alpine environment.
  • Responsible Sourcing & EMS: Suppliers are chosen for their sustainability and ethical credentials, and a comprehensive Environmental Management System monitors waste, energy, water, and carbon emissions.
  • Chemical-Free Chalets: All chalets are cleaned with non-toxic, eco-friendly products and linens washed with plastic-free detergents, ensuring guest safety and protecting the Alpine environment.

Impact beyond the chalets

AliKats’ influence extends well beyond its own properties. The business helped found Montagne Verte, a non-profit association driving sustainable change across the Haute Chablais region. Initiatives include Morzine’s first bio-waste scheme, the AlpinExpress Pass (rewarding train travellers with resort discounts), and a charity shop selling and repairing second-hand mountain gear.

Meanwhile, co-founder Al Judge leads the sustainability strategy for Seasonal Business in Travel (SBiT), working on ways to decarbonise travel between the UK and the Alps, with a goal to make train and coach the preferred transport methods by 2030.

“Becoming a Certified B Corporation is one of our proudest achievements yet,” said Al Judge, Co-founder of AliKats. “We’ve always believed tourism can be a force for good. This recognition shows we’re on the right path, but it’s only the beginning. Certification gives us the framework to push even harder towards our 2035 goal of donating or investing €1 million in protecting the planet.”

With B Corp Certification now achieved, AliKats is more determined than ever to show how chalet holidays can balance luxury with responsibility and inspire the travel industry to embrace positive change.
