Canton Of Appenzell Ausserrhoden Agrees Santis Lift Concession Renewal

The Department of Construction and Economic Affairs reports to the Federal Office of Transport a clear 'yes' to the renewal of the license for the Säntis lift.

The Säntis is with 2,502 meters the highest mountain in the Alpstein, which is not only visible from afar due to its exposed position, but also offers fascinating views of 6 countries. The cable car takes you up to the Säntis summit to Schwägalp.

In mid-February, the Federal Office of Transport (BAV) submitted Säntis-Schwebebahn AG's application for the renewal of the license for the aerial cableway on the Säntis to the cantonal Department of Construction and Economics for comment.

The department is now reporting to the BAV its clear 'yes' to the license renewal. This is not opposed by any overriding public interests. All departmental offices and the municipality of Hundwil as the location community are in favor of renewing the concession.

For Appenzell Ausserrhoden, the cable car on the Säntis is important for tourism and economic reasons. The license renewal ensures the continued operation of the railway for another 40 years until mid-2065. The renewal of the license is not related to the new construction project of Säntis-Schwebebahn AG.

The unforgettable ride on the cable car to the summit of the Säntis takes ten wonderful minutes. It is in service all year round. People from all over the world meet in the weather-protected viewing halls, on the large sun terraces and comfortable summit paths. The new, cozy terrace restaurant, stores and the new adventure world welcome visitors with typical Appenzell hospitality.

This includes unique offers such as romantic full moon trips, impressive sunrise trips and many attractive package deals. For example, it is possible to combine a meal with a cable car ride at a special price - birthday children can travel to the summit and back at half price.
