Cable Cars Switzerland: Wanted - Young heroes For The Industry

Like all industries, cable cars are also affected by demographic change, and many technical specialists will be taking their well-deserved retirement in the next few years. The cable car industry is reacting and is launching the national “Alpine Tech Heroes” campaign for the first time to get young people interested in cable car careers.

By choosing a career as a cable car mechatro technician EFZ or cable car operator EBA, young people are choosing an apprenticeship with a vision. The job profile is varied with technical disciplines in mechanics, electrical engineering and hydraulics, offers interesting aspects such as weather and avalanche knowledge in nature as well as stable and long-term employment opportunities. Young talents are spoiled for choice. In order to make the profession better known on a national level, the cable car industry has launched the national campaign “Alpine Tech Heroes”.

Insight into the cable car world at 50 locations

On Monday, March 18, 2024 and Friday, March 22, 2024, around 50 cable car companies and industry-related companies from all over Switzerland, as well as the training center of Cable Cars Switzerland and the Azienda Elettrica Ticinese, will open their doors to give young people a look behind the scenes of cable cars . On the “Call of Heroes” trial days, those interested will learn about the various tasks of cable car mechatronics engineers and cable car operators, not only welding in the workshop, but also outside during maintenance work on a cable car support. On the website alpinetechheroes.ch, students can find out about apprenticeships and register for the “Call of Heroes” trial days in eight regions of Switzerland.

“Working where others go on vacation is how you can describe working on a cable car. The combination of nature experience and technology is exciting, the training is broad and the future prospects could hardly be better," says Berno Stoffel, Director of Cable Cars Switzerland.

First national youth campaign for the cable car industry

Cable Cars Switzerland has launched the first national youth campaign in collaboration with the nine regional associations. For the first time, visitors to the career fairs at ZEBI in Lucerne, at FIUTSCHER in Chur and at the Salon des Métiers in Lausanne were informed about the “Call of Heroes” trial days. Young people and parents have recently been made aware of the website alpinetechheroes.ch on social media as well as with posters and flyers so that they can register for the events and discover open apprenticeships. “You have to experience the spirit of the cable cars because the employees work with a lot of passion and talent. Teamwork is crucial. That's why we want young people to really experience the cable car world and have decided to hold events nationally," says Berno Stoffel.

Anyone interested can register for the “Call of Heroes” trial days at www.alpinetechheroes.ch until mid-March 2024.
