BFI: Offers A Career On The Mountain - Training Specialists Fo rSki Lifts

Employees with practical experience in the technical area of cable car operations can complete their recognized apprenticeship as a cable car technician in one year while working.

Since 2011, courses to prepare for the extraordinary final apprenticeship examination at the BFI Salzburg have enabled over 100 new specialists to be trained in the second educational path, who are now working in the cable car industry. The next course “Cableway technology in the 2nd educational path” will start in September 2024.

It is now particularly attractive to complete the course: Due to the current collective agreement, skilled workers are ranked better than those employees who have completed training as a machinist. In addition, skilled workers can expect an earlier advancement in salary classification.

Training in Zell am See and the Hallein state vocational school

The prospective cable car operators receive in-depth training, because highly technical and complex systems require well-trained specialists. The theoretical lessons take place at the BFI Pinzgau in Zell am See.

The practical training is carried out at the Hallein State Vocational School, THE competence center for cable car training. Due to the Austria-wide apprentice training for cable car technology, this location offers optimal conditions and unique equipment with lift systems from all leading manufacturers.

The course was developed by absolute experts from practice for practice. The training therefore also prepares students specifically for the final apprenticeship examination.

The HTL Hallein offers an advanced course especially for “cable car technology” graduates, so you can catch up on your Matura and also obtain an HTL degree. As a result, the path to becoming an engineer is also possible. Further information can be found on the HTL Hallein homepage.
