Backcountry, Mutual Rescue Team Up For Dogs

Backcountry, the leading specialty outdoor retailer of gear and apparel, with the best in both style and performance, has partnered with Mutual Rescue, a national animal welfare initiative to raise money and awareness for local animal shelters. Backcountry has launched the long-term partnership by holding a sweepstake to encourage customers to donate to Mutual Rescue and a social media campaign honoring the special relationships between its customers and their dogs. Mutual Rescue will then distribute the raised funds to local animal shelters across the country.

Starting August 26, Backcountry customers will be able to make donations to Mutual Rescue, whose mission challenges the commonly held misconception that charitable giving to organizations helping companion animals is at the expense of helping people. Instead, as a nod to its name, Mutual Rescue believes that uniting people and pets is a mutually beneficial experience that brings tremendous value to both animals and people. All funds will go directly to local animal shelters.

“At Backcountry, we are firm believers that dogs make our days better. Our data shows that our customers consider dogs a beloved member of their family and their favorite adventure partners. More than 84 percent of our customers have dogs in their households, and more than half adopted them,” says Sarah Crockett, chief marketing officer at Backcountry. “As dog lovers, we are thrilled to partner with an organization like Mutual Rescue that aligns in our beliefs, which will allow us to use our platform to elevate awareness and deliver financial support to local animal shelters.”

Customers who submit photos and videos of their dogs being active and enjoying the outdoors will be entered into a sweepstake offering a bundle of pet-focused prizes. Backcountry will collect these photos and videos and share them as part of the brand’s National Dog Day social media celebration on August 26. Customers can submit content and enter to win, by visiting: https://www.backcountry.com/sc/mutual-rescue-contest-entry-form.

Mutual Rescue’s purpose is to challenge a commonly held misconception about animal-welfare philanthropy: supporting animal shelters and rescue organizations is at the expense of benefiting people, and that the two causes are somehow mutually exclusive. Mutual Rescue aims to change the conversation from “people or animals” to “people and animals.”
