Australian Interschools Snowsport Athletes Compete At Mt Buller Sept 2-7

Thousands of school-aged skiers and snowboarders are preparing to descend upon Mt Buller during 2-7th September as the best school aged snowsports athletes across Australia represent their schools and enjoy a lively 6 days of racing and competition on the snow.
The 2025 Mogul Ski World Australian Interschools Snowsport Championships will see athletes competing for national Interschools titles in their chosen disciplines across skiing and snowboarding including alpine GS, ski cross, moguls, snowboard cross, cross country and slopestyle after qualifying in their state championships earlier in the season.
Delivering an event of this scale take months of planning. Mt Buller’s mountain operations team dedicate weeks of snowmaking and grooming to prepare snow covered courses. The Race & Events Department put in long hours to run the races, supported by a community-wide effort to welcome the schools participating. Several event sites required detailed preparation, including the technical build of the mogul course on Chamois Run that will host the spectacular night finals under lights complete with a firework show on Friday 5th September.
Event Manager David Speirs explains, “The Australian Interschools is the showcase of our very best school teams and individual snowsports athletes from around the country. We are very proud of our history in hosting this significant event and delivering the highest quality event sites and overall event experience.”
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said, “We’re proud to back this event which has kickstarted the careers of many Australian winter athletes.
“Events like this support talent and showcase Victoria’s diverse sporting events calendar and world-class facilities while supporting local jobs and businesses.”
Mt Buller Interschools Association Chair Alan Arthur adds “Mt Buller is proud that some of Australia’s most successful winter athletes have honed their skills through the Interschools Snowsport Championships, including Jakara Anthony, Alex “Chumpy” Pullin and Anton Grimus.
Noel Landry, General Manager Buller Ski Lifts said, “This event is a highlight for the students and for our mountain. It attracts around 1000 interstate competitors and their families to the resort for the week boosting accommodation bookings, restaurant and café trade and a spike in tuning services as racers prepare to do their best. It injects a wave of visitors that drives the tourism economy on the mountain and for many businesses in our region. Mt Buller has a history of supporting snowsports and creating pathways for athletes with their eyes on the Olympics and World Cup podiums – this week is a shining example of the depth of talent and passion in Australia for snowsports.”
Mt Buller will welcome approximately 380 schools and 3500 individual event entries for the week-long event, a true celebration of youth, sport and the passion for skiing and snowboarding that unites the alpine community.
Mt Buller has received 60cms of snowfall in the past week and has very good conditions for the event. Full details are available at the event website > https://www.interschools.com.au/australian-interschools
