Alta Badia Setting Up For Skiworldcup

he Men's Alpine Ski World Cup will stop in Alta Badia in the run-up to Christmas, as is tradition. The two giant slaloms will take place on Sunday 17 and Monday 18 December on one of the most technical and challenging slopes of the entire Ski World Cup, where the best athletes at international level will compete. A festive atmosphere will welcome the numerous fans in the hospitality areas - Leitner VIP Lounge, Red Bull Energy Lounge and Gran Risa Chalet - at the foot of the Gran Risa. Tickets for the hospitality areas as well as for the grandstands and trackside can be purchased online, at www.skiworldcup.it

Those who do not have the opportunity to follow their favourites directly from the finish area, can cheer for them from home, thanks to the worldwide broadcast of the races, at 10.00 a.m. for the first run and at 1.30 p.m. for the second.

ON THE GRAN RISA THE SNOW IS SMART

The Organising Committee of the Ski World Cup in Alta Badia espouses a green-oriented tourism development model, based on the efficient use of resources. The snowmaking is always made with rainwater, transformed into snow, and then returned to the earth, in an eternal natural cycle. And then there is SnowMan, or Snow Management by the Skicarosello lift company. This is a system that acquires data such as the amount of snow produced by the cannons, relating it to the amount of snow on the ski slope and detected by the satellite systems (SnowSat) on the snow cats. This system is able to communicate in real time the amount of snow present when the slope is being groomed. This information is used to decide which snowmaking systems to operate and for how long, until the required amount of snow is reached. All this results in considerable savings of water and electricity, reducing the waste of these resources to zero. In addition to the Gran Risa, this system is active on three quarters of the slopes in Alta Badia.

In addition, the Gran Risa slope is at the centre of another innovative project. It is an app dedicated to the operators who are responsible for grooming the slope (a technique that guarantees perfect snow cover for all World Cup athletes, including those who start last). The app makes it possible to monitor the condition of the piste at sensitive points, the weight of the snow, internal and surface humidity, air temperature and many other parameters.

TROPHIES 2023: SPORT AND NATURE UNITED IN ART FOR FUN AND REFLECTION ON THE FUTURE TO BE BUILT TOGETHER

The trophies, which will be awarded to the top three finishers, will again this year be the work of artist Daniele Basso, author of the GIGANT sculpture, installed at the start of the Gran Risa slope for the 30th anniversary of the event.

The themes chosen for the 2023 Giant Slalom race trophies of this edition are Sport and Nature. The trophies, created by artist Daniele Basso, made entirely of steel, an eternal material, and laser-carved, create a space in which to reflect. „The mountain today has become accessible to many,“ says the artist, „they need to be taught how to experience it in the right way.“ The theme of environmental protection thus also becomes central to international events and manifestations such as the Ski World Cup in Alta Badia. „This year's trophies," the artist points out, "speak of sustainability and the environment linked to sport. In the shape, from bottom to top, a few drops of water, smaller and smaller, are transformed by the hands, a metaphor for man's doing, into snow crystals. A fundamental element for the territory“.

Saving water and optimising energy from renewable sources are important results, achieved while still guaranteeing the highest quality of performance of the course, as is indispensable for hosting a World Cup event. „The trophy therefore celebrates the commitment of the Organising Committee of the races and the entire Ladin territory, in respecting the environment and the magnificent Dolomites, in order to offer the world a marvellous spectacle that, in winter, has its climax in the race! We must remember, however, that even through sport one can experience the environment and the mountains in a healthy way, for one's own well-being, and as a challenge to grow through authentic experiences to take with us into everyday life. To keep alive the bond with nature, the basis of our existence!“
