Alta Badia - Cross-country Skiing Centre, News And Innovations

With the start of the winter season, the Cross-country skiing centre Alta Badia, located in Armentarola at the foot of the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park, is preparing to open its doors. Cross-country skiing is a panacea for people. In addition to exercising the entire musculature of the body, it also activates the mind, as it is a sport that can be practised in the midst of nature. The Alta Badia Cross-country skiiing centre offers more than 26 km of trails and no less than four FIS-approved competitive tracks. There are eight trails of varying difficulty and are prepared for both classic and skating disciplines. This variety of trails on which one can enjoy breathtaking views of Conturines, Lavarella and Settsass are one of the highlights of the Cross-Country skiing centre Alta Badia. For some years now, a strong attraction has been the possibility of practising the air rifle biathlon speciality. In addition, the cross-country centre has a school field, where children and adults have the opportunity to approach this lesser-known but no less fascinating sport.

NEW: A NEW STRUCTURE FOR THE CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING CENTRE WITH LADIN FLAIR

From January 2024, the Alta Badia Cross-country skiing centre will be able to welcome its guests with a completely renovated and more efficient facility. This, which includes a restaurant, ski hire, ski school and rooms serving as a depot and parking area for snow crawlers, perfectly embodies the typical architecture of the Dolomites and Ladin culture, ensuring that it blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. Every detail has been carefully considered, creating a unique and authentic atmosphere. “The materials used for the construction are of high quality and strictly local. This has contributed to sustainability and respect for the environment. This choice not only preserves the natural beauty of the area, but also supports the local economy and traditional craftsmanship. Sustainability, in all its four fundamental concepts, is one of the focal points of Alta Badia, which was awarded GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) certification in August 2022,” reveals Christian Pescollderungg, President of the Alta Badia Tourist Cooperative, the body that owns the facility and maintains the various loops and walks in the immediate vicinity. The furnishings in the individual rooms were constructed from natural materials and different types of wood, such as larch, fir and stone pine. The shapes of the furnishings recall the forms of nature and are reminiscent of the forests and the Dolomites.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING PROTAGONIST OF NOS LADINS-WE LADINS

Nos Ladins - We Ladins is the project that aims to bring tourists closer to the local traditions and way of life, thanks to appointments with local people, which take place during the winter months, from December to March. The undisputed protagonists of the project are, in fact, united by a deep innate passion for the places where they were born and grew up, and for the millenary traditions that characterise this culture. Also for this edition, new stories and new experiences are proposed, to be lived together with the Ladin ambassadors, among them, Egon Pescollderungg, director of the Alta Badia Cross-Country Ski School, founded 30 years ago.

Egon will give those who are curious about this discipline the chance to spend two hours enjoying sport and nature, with a visit to the new cross-country centre. Participants, together with Egon, will also discover cross-country skiing-related activities, such as biathlon. Appointments are on 11 December, 8 January, 5 February, 11 and 25 March, always at 2 p.m. Those wishing to participate in the activity linked to Nos Ladins-We Ladins must book their place the day before, at the Tourist Offices of Alta Badia, or online at www.altabadia.org<http://www.altabadia.org>.
