Campitello - Col Rodella Cable Car Has Made Its Final Journey.

After 38 years of operation and 22 million passengers, the historic Campitello - Col Rodella cable car has made its final journey. Since 1986, it has shaped tourism in the Fassa Valley. Now it's time to look ahead:

The future is called 3S

18 cabins with 30 seats each, the hourly capacity will be more than doubled and the opening is planned for December 2025.

THE PROJECT

The main goal of the new project is to increase transport capacity. The initial phase will involve increasing the capacity from the current 1,000 passengers per hour to approximately 2,177, thus solving the queueing problem. The valley station will be built near the tennis court in the "Ischia" district, while the mountain station will be built directly behind the current station, but slightly further back. This improved location will allow easier access to the ski slopes and eliminate the inconvenient route passengers currently have to take.

MOUNTAIN STATION

The existing "metal cube" will be removed and replaced by a transparent (glazed) structure on the Canazei side; the rest of the station and the cabin storage area will be located underground.

3S CABLE CAR

The new system is called "3S." The cable line will remain virtually identical to that of the current cable car. The difference lies in the means of transport: instead of two 120-person cabins, the new system will have 18 cabins of 30 people each. These cabins will automatically connect to the suspension cable at the departure point of each station and detach again at the destination, allowing passengers to conveniently board and disembark in a slow-moving vehicle.
