20 Athletes Named To The Snow Australia National Alpine Ski Team

Three new faces are among a team of 20 athletes named to the Snow Australia National Alpine Ski Team for 2025/26.

World Championships debutant Sophie Mahon (Alpine B Team), World Junior Championships debutant Felix Sachs (Alpine D Team) and Winter Youth Olympic Games Flag Bearer Duncan Cowan (Ski Cross D Team) have earned a call-up to the national team following selection-worthy performances across the recent international season.

Both Mahon and Sachs achieved career-best FIS Points results, while Cowan had a breakthrough season on the Nor-Am Tour.

The trio join a host of seasoned competitors including ‘A Team’ members, triple Olympian Greta Small, Madi Hoffman, PyeongChang Olympian Harry Laidlaw and Beijing Olympian Louis Muhlen-Schulte who retain their position for the crucial Olympic qualification season.

Snow Australia Alpine and Ski Cross Director Shawn Fleming said Australia’s alpine and ski cross athletes continue to show promise and progression.

“Team confirmation is always an exciting moment, and I’d like to congratulate the athletes on their selection and extend a warm welcome to our three debutants,” Fleming said.

“Sophie has been skiing and chasing this as one of her goals and she was close a couple of years ago, so it’s really exciting that she has persevered and realised this for herself.

“Felix had an outstanding first year racing FIS. I had the opportunity to spend some time with him in Tarvisio this year at World Juniors and it was great to see him make criteria.”

“Duncan had an unbelievable season skiing at six Nor-Am Cup events and winning five of them to take the overall title for the year. Hopefully this is another step forward for Duncan on his journey,” Fleming said.

With an Olympic Games the key event fixture of the 2025/26 international season, Fleming is excited to see what the squad could achieve.

“Over the past one to two years, Harry Laidlaw, Louis Muhlen-Schulte, and Madi Hoffman have demonstrated that Australians can ski themselves into the top 30, that they can have second runs at World Cups in Giant Slalom and Slalom. Their success has had a significant impact on the national team and we’re seeing the athletes working hard both individually and together to elevate themselves to that level,” Fleming said.

Fleming also took the opportunity to acknowledge outgoing team member Zoe Michael who recently announced she is stepping back from the sport.

“Zoe has been a strong member of the National Alpine Ski Team since 2019. From early beginnings competing with the Perisher Winter Sports Club, Zoe has gone on to represent Australia at FIS events as well as the 2020 Youth Winter Olympic Games in Lausanne. We wish Zoe all the best in her retirement,” Fleming concluded.

Congratulations to the athletes selected to the National Alpine Ski Team for 2025/26.
