Wurzeralm Gets Green Light For Investments At Frauenkar

Further investments in the infrastructure at the Wurzeralm will begin this summer. The focus will be on improving the facilities at the Frauenkar. With the support of the state of Upper Austria, Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG is investing three million euros in the site over the next four months to make the Wurzeralm fit for the future.

In the first construction phase, which will last approximately four months, approximately 8 kilometers of pipelines and 18 kilometers of power cables will be laid over a distance of 3 kilometers. This work will lay the foundation for the improved infrastructure at the Frauenkar for summer and winter operations. "Starting in July, excavation and installation work will primarily be carried out at the Frauenkar. We ask all hikers for their understanding. These are necessary measures to secure the site's long-term viability," said Helmut Holzinger, CEO of Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG.

"The Pyhrn-Priel region is a prime example of year-round tourism – precisely in line with our state tourism strategy. The current investments at Frauenkar are another important step toward securing and enhancing the attractiveness of the Wurzeralm by specifically improving the infrastructure for winter and summer operations and simultaneously laying the foundation for future projects. This not only strengthens the Wurzeralm itself as a tourist destination, but also the competitiveness of the entire region," said Markus Achleitner, State Minister for Economic Affairs and Tourism.

The focus of the first construction phase will be the laying of power and water lines. Investments will include a pumping station and a snowmaking system with 45 connection points. This will enable snowmaking on the Frauenkar slope No. 3 starting next winter, and will also lay the infrastructural foundation for potential future projects.

Restrictions for hikers on the Wurzeralm to October 2025

During construction, disruptions due to construction traffic can be expected on the "2 Million Years in 2 Hours" circular hiking trail between the Almdorf and the Frauenkar valley station. It is recommended to take an alternative route via the Linzerhaus and the Teichleinfall trail. "Those heading to Brunnsteinersee or the Rote Wand should first take the circular hiking trail toward Teichleinfall and the observation tower, rather than the direct route from the funicular mountain station via the Hahnlgraben to the Frauenkar cable car," says Peter Hager, Technical Director of Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG. Furthermore, please note that hiking trail 218 from the Frauenkar valley station runs parallel to the construction site, and disruptions may occur there as well. Likewise, the hiking trail from the Frauenkar mountain station to the valley station should be avoided during the construction phase.
