Winter Storm - 21cms And Wild Winds At Mt Buller & Mt Stirling

Mt Buller woke to 21cms of deep fresh snow this morning after a wild night of blizzarding conditions. Gusting winds were clocked at over 140km per hour as the winter cold front crossed eastern Australia and dropped snow on Mt Buller.
The resort has been blanketed in deep snow with wind-blown drifts sitting around the ski area and village. The snow falls are expected to continue this week and will take the cover on runs to well over 60cms and beyond 1 metre in places.
“It’s a humdinger of a winter storm and so exciting to see this much snow stacking up and setting up the resort for great skiing and snowboarding for mid-season,” explained spokesperson Rhylla Morgan.
“The strong winds are still swirling today so many lifts remain on hold while Mother Nature drops off this snowy top up. We thank the Mt Buller mountain operations crew for working so hard to clear deep drifts, over 2 metres deep in many places, de-ice lifts and ensure the safety of everyone in resort. Thanks also to guests for their patience as the community weathers the storm and we get ready to enjoy incredible skiing and boarding when the weather rolls through!”
Visitors arriving in resort today are asked to take care driving, 2WD cars are fitting chains and the resort management crew are working to clear tree branches and manage the flow of traffic on this peak season weekend. Guests are reminded to book resort entry, parking and lift passes in advance to avoid disappointment.
This week is an ideal one to consider coming for a mid-week visit to enjoy the fresh conditions if you can! The snow falling down to lower elevations is great news for families wishing to snowplay, cross country ski or sightsee with great conditions at neighbouring Mt Stirling this week.
