12 Year Old Snowboarder Mia Brookes Selected For Team Great Britain

There’s no stopping competitive snowboarder Mia Brookes, who has just been selected to represent Great Britain in freestyle snowboarding.

The young athlete has already had a successful start to her career and is in the world’s top 50 senior snowboarders – all at the ripe age of 12.

Mia first got in to snowboarding when she was just 18 months old through her ski enthusiast grandparents and taught by her parents who are also snowboarders. She now travels with her parents around Europe to her various training sessions and competitions in their campervan.

Last season, Mia stepped up to the World Rookie Tour where she went head to head with top snowboarders from around the globe, and has this month won the Kids Laax Open snowboard slopestyle category and also finished second in the halfpipe.

Despite her home town of Sandbach not being famed for heavy snowfall, Mia has been training at the UK’s longest indoor real snow slope, Manchester-based Chill Factorfor the past five years and is part of its Sponsored Athlete Programme.

Chill Factore’s Sponsored Athlete Programme aims to support the next generation of rising stars by providing a 12-month individual sponsorship, including training opportunities and free use of the slopes. The programme covers all elements of snowsports from Freeski and Skicross, to Freestyle Snowboarding and various DSUK disciplines.

Mia has said on her recent achievement: “I am incredibly proud to have been chosen to represent Great Britain. I have always loved learning new skills; even now my hobbies include gymnastics, skateboarding, surfing and guitar lessons alongside my main passion for snowboarding.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to be sponsored by Chill Factorand become part of the team here. It’s a good vibe and you get to meet loads of new people.”

Morwenna Angove, CEO at Chill Factorsaid: “We’re so pleased we’re able to support budding athletes and future sports stars like Mia. She’s an inspiration to many young girls and boys, and we hope that one day we’ll see her at the Winter Olympics!”
