Zugerberg And Madloch Lifts - Expanding Lech & Zurs

The Zugerberg and Madloch lifts and the associated ski runs are well known to every enthusiastic winter sports enthusiast. In the Lech Zürs am Arlberg ski area, they are also of central importance as connecting railways between Lech / Oberlech, Zürs and Zug. After more than 50 years of service, the two chairlifts are now taking their well-deserved retirement. From the winter season 2021/22, they will be replaced by two ultra-modern lifts, which will bring skiers up to the mountain even faster, more comfortably and without waiting times. The construction work will be carried out in the summer months and will be completed in early December 2021. If you then complete the most legendary ski circuit in the Alps, the White Ring or the longest ski circuit in the Alps, the RUN of FAME,
Zugerbergbahn: Great added value for winter sports enthusiasts and for the landscape
The new Zugerbergbahn is a 10-passenger gondola lift with panoramic windows, which halves the previous journey time - the new lift needs less than five minutes for the 1,460 meters between the station in Zug and the mountain station at the ski hut at 2,105 meters Balmalp. “With the new Zugerbergbahn, an important bottleneck for the White Ring could be brought up to the highest technical standard,” says a delighted Mag. Christoph Pfefferkorn, commercial manager of the Lech ski lifts, “and thanks to the perfect timing with the Madlochbahn, which is also new, queuing times can now be effective be avoided."
The mountain station and the gondola station of the valley station are completely underground. This construction is advantageous in several ways. Not only does it make a significant contribution to the unique landscape and nature conservation, it also has a significantly reduced area exposed to wind. Furthermore, it enables efficient use of space, as Mag. Christoph Pfefferkorn explains: “The space was used optimally. In this way, another house is being built on the underground gondola station of the valley station for 36 cable car employees, who can take the Zugerbergbahn to work every morning. ”Another plus point is the new, underground access to the Balmalp ski hut. This also allows guests without skis (clothing) to go directly to events and festivities,
Madlochbahn: More comfort and safety in the face of the winners of the White Ring race
After more than 12.5 million trips, the Madlochbahn will be replaced by a comfortable 6-seater chairlift with heated seats and weather protection hoods, which will take winter sports enthusiasts to the mountain station on Madlochjoch at 2,446 meters above sea level in just 5 minutes. As a connecting cable car between Zürs and Lech, it makes a significant contribution to the unlimited skiing pleasure that Ski Arlberg, Austria's largest ski area, is fully committed to.
The two new stations will be free-standing and roofed over with a modern, lightweight steel and glass construction. The valley station will be moved to the opposite side of the lake. This is primarily due to safety reasons, as Ing.Philipp Zangerl, CEO of Ski-Zürs-AG, explains: "By relocating the valley station, access to the new cableway will be made much easier and at the same time a bottleneck defused." Avalanche protection at the mountain station further expanded.
For fans of the legendary race on the White Ring, the Madlochbahn has an additional delicacy in store: Each of the 50 weather protection hoods of the Madlochbahn is decorated on the back with the winners of the individual and team “Bildstein Trophy” awards. In this way, the brave ski heroes not only receive due recognition, but will certainly also motivate future winners to face this unique challenge.
