Wizz Air Promotes Slovenian Skiing

Following an 18-month hiatus, from today, Slovenia will be even more accessible to travellers from the UK following the reinstatement of Wizz Air’s nonstop service. Operating three times weekly, the low-cost airline will once again offer a direct service from London Luton (LTN) to Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) with fares starting from £43.99 one way. Departing London Luton on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 13:30 LT, passengers will arrive in Ljubljana in just over two hours at 16:40 LT.

Winter in Slovenia  is a wonderland with excellent skiing conditions, fewer crowds, and lower expenses than other times of the year. The snow and ice adds an additional enchanting quality to already captivating popular attractions such as Lake Bled, the Alps, and Triglav National Park. Slovenia’s compact nature allows ease of travel so visitors can be sightseeing in the capital of Ljubljana one day, before hitting the slopes the next and finally, unwinding in one of the country’s many thermal spas.

Activities

On the slopes - Kranjska Gora is the most popular ski resort in Slovenia, ideal for both first timers, families, and experts, closely followed by Pohorje (home to one of Europe’s longest illuminated ski slopes), the award-winning resort town of Cerkno and Vogel offering picture perfect views of Lake Bohinj while schuss down the mountain. Multi-day SkiPasses can be purchased from £58 for an adult, valid for 2-7 days and allows users to ski at all the resorts around the country. Slovenia is also famous for ski jumping and those that prefer to keep two feet firmly on the ground at all times can enjoy the championships in Planica.

Closest to the capital and ideal for family-friendly ski and snow adventures, the Krvavec Ski Resort is the second-largest Slovenian ski resort, located in the Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. There are 30 km of slopes available and 11 lifts in addition to some of the country’s steepest slopes with five black runs for the advanced skiers. Most visitors are families on day trips and as such, there’s a terrain park, good nursery slops and a children’s area with a park, carpet and drag list. The mid-mountain Plaza offers plenty of picnic spots and snack bars and there are also huts on the Kriska Planina area for a quick restbite. Snowshoeing is another popular activity and visitors can also try airboarding and tobogganing. The runs are floodlit on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Located in Triglav National Park beneath the Julian Alps, the refurbishment added key sustainable architectural elements such as new insulation and glazing, geothermal heat pumps and LED lighting, to create a property which is efficient yet warm and inviting.

In the spa - Slovenia has 15 certified natural spas, famous for its thermal waters which are said to have healing properties. Cerkno is home to the only Slovenia thermal spa under the Julian Alps. Located along the famous Idrija fracture, it is believed that powerful healing energies permeate from here. The water is rich with minerals and pumped from a bore-hole at a depth of 2,000 meters. Terme Cerkno is suitable for relaxation and swimming and also has a sauna and salt room.
